Red Dead Retardation
Last Sunday 2K revealed Red Dead Redemption 2
Very briefly, NeoGAF did what it should normally do: be excited. Predictably, NeoGAF being NeoGAF, the thread abruptly was co-opted and focus was shifted from hype to race politics.
thread is here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1295765
evidence of the fun starts on page 4.
if you jump in there, be aware the thread boiled over so badly, the mods locked it and began to sanitize posts and fumigate pests. You won't see the the thread at the height of its angry absurd "I hate white people" and "2k is the devil/game automatically sucks for not representing the races/religions I want" glory.
as you read, you will frequently see glimpses that what remains was actually much worse.
the most unusual bit about the thread, and this is the take away I believe everyone who reads it should have, is how it treats the people who the site was intended for: gamers.
if you look at all the people in that thread who have been banned and what they wrote, (and yes, the majority of them were banned because of things they said IN THAT THREAD) you ought to see a pattern emerge.
if you think most of those who got banned are trolls, you have poor social skills and incapable of identifying legitimate anger from people who are fed up with having bullshit foisted upon them. The shit going on at NeoGAF is purely Orwellian: people are being punished with bans for essentially thought crimes and wrong-think.
It is also yet another example of NeoGAF bearing its soul to the world wide web yet again.. If you forgot what that looked like, here's a refresher:
Shame of it is, I remember when that place was somewhat respectable. Dennis Dyack was the running gag there because he made such a spectacular ass out of himself over Too Human. Now NeoGAF is worse than Dennis Dyack.
That thread is basically "FOR OR AGAINST" in action (if you know what I'm talking about).
I would absolutely love to read the ban messages from members who were banned specifically because of that thread.
The hypocrisy that comes out of that forum in particular is astonishing.
