If Sony loss-lead at (say) $100 per console, then there probably has to be *at least* 15-20 *new* titles sold per-console to break even. (Same problem with X1, WiiU)

The problem is exacerbated because Sony (1) appealed to the "hardcore" gamer, and (2) they're likely (on the strength of E3) to sell boatloads of consoles early.

Not necessarily - if you've got a SP-only game (i.e. something with little "lasting value"), you'd be better off targeting X1 to minimise lost (i.e. "used") sales.

Having said that... with underlying hardware being more-or-less identical, it depends on SDKs. There may be little real dev cost in targeting both X1 & PS4 architectures.

I think publishers will support both machines to begin with but check to see how much extra revenue they are set out to make from the added drm on xbox one

if the revenue proves to be relativly of high standards then id assume that more exclusives may be targeted towards microsoft instead of sony

Indie devs self-publishing on the PS4 will help offset those costs. Did you see the companies making PS4 games?

And I encourage all PS4 users to not buy used right away, and support some day 1 titles they know they'll absolutely love. Publishers need to be smothered by the gamers'

money to really see where the power lies.

Ah - good point about the indie titles, that's gravy for Sony. Do they take a typical 30/70 split?

Can't really say what the financials are, but developers and publishers set up their own prices on PS4.
