Before release I was really looking forward to playing this game because I really enjoyed playing the old DMCs. At first I was disappointed about being a new character that I have never heard of. But after a few missions, you get used to him and enjoy fighting with him just as much as Dante. Nero is easier to defeat the enemies mainly due to the devil arm which he has. This pulls the monsters in and allows you to do some quick attacks without them damaging you. However, this doesn't mean that playing Dante is worse, he is an awesome character in the game and playing with him is really enjoyable. The game is very difficult at times and requires alot of reaction skills. People that enjoy playing these types of games would learn the moves/combos fast and would find the game rather easy. If you are playing it for the gamerscore however, you will find it rather hard on the harder difficulties.

All the different type of weapons and monsters keeps you hooked onto the game. The game also has incredible boss fights which sometimes are found difficult but at the same time really enjoyable. You always want to increase the amount of stylish points you have, the amount of orbs you get and how fast you complete the mission.

The different difficulties on the game makes you want to play it more and more. I found myself replaying the whole game around 6times before I even got slightly bored of it. It's a really fun game to play and getting it is a must.

    Overall: 5/5

I'm pretty new to the DMC series. I played the first one a bit before playing this, and that's about it. I never really planned to get this either. I saw that the Capcom Triple Pack came out, and it had this, Dead Rising and Lost Planet, and I only really got it for Dead Rising. But guess which I game I've played more of?

    STORY
You play as Nero, who belongs to the Order of the Sword, though he doesn't quite want to be. During a normal congression, Dante shows up and kills their leader, Sanctus. Nero and Dante fight and eventually, Dante leaves. Nero is sent to go capture Dante. As time goes on, Nero meets various other characters, which help lead to various twists and turns in the story.

The story is alright, to say the least. It's not amazing, but it's not terrible.

    DESIGN
There is basically one game mode in DMC 4, the campaign. It is split into 20 different missions, with 13 played as Nero, and the other 7 played as Dante. It will take around 9-12 hours to complete, depending on your skill level and which difficulty you choose. Speaking of which, there are many different difficulties to help compensate for the slightly short campaign. The first few aren't too hard but the later ones are extremely difficult. Luckily, there are various items to heal you when you need it. These items are purchased with red orbs, which you can get by killing enemies or finding around the environment.

At the end of each mission, though, you will receive Proud Souls. These are used to upgrade Nero and Dante in various ways, whether it be their weapons or other types of abilities. The amount of Proud Souls you obtain is dependant on teh ranking you get at the end of each mission, from D to S. This is chosen by how fast you completed the mission, how skilled you were in fighting, and the number of red orbs you collected.

Once you complete the campaign, various extras are unlocked, These can be art, descriptions on various things, or a battle royale of sorts, called the Bloody Palace. There 101 levels in the Palace, each containing different types and amounts of enemies. You must defeat them as fast and as stylish as you can.

Overall, DMC 4 is kind of light in content, but the extras and difficulties do help to compensate.

    GAMEPLAY
Nero and Dante play quite differently, so I'll start with how Nero plays first. Personally, I like playing as him more. He has his sword, the Red Queen, which can be powered up for one hit by squeezing the left trigger. His combos are basic, but strong, and you'll use be using this most of the time. He also has his double-barrel pistol, the Blue Rose. You can shoot this as many times as you want, or charge you shot for a stringer attack. The one thing Nero has over Dante is his demon arm, the Devil Bringer. This is used to grabbing enemies from afar, slamming them to the ground or bringing them up in the air for some aerial combos. You will be using this alot, and that's why I like Nero better. Dante isn't much for aerials, but Nero is.

Now, on to Dante. Just like Nero, Dante has swords and guns. Dante has his trusty sword, Rebellion, a punching weapon, Gilgamesh, and this awesome spider-like weapon, Lucifer, that juts out endless, floating red swords. He also has his trusty dual pistols, Ebony & Ivory, his shotgun, Coyote-A, and a transofrming one, called Pandora. Dante also has different styles, that can be switched on the fly. He has Sword Master, Gunslinger, Trickster and Royal Guard. All these basically do is change what the B button will do. I usually just switched between Sword Master and Gunslinger.

Half way through the game, you'll also receive the Yamato. By pressing the LB, Nero or Dante will recieve extra "help" from some sort of demon for a short time. This changes up your combos a bit, and makes them stronger.

Overall, the gameplay is quite fun, but for some people, it might be dissappointing to learn you play as Nero more than Dante. I am not one of those people.

    PRESENTATION
I ahve to say the graphics are quite good. While they might not be as awe-inspring as they were when the game came out two years ago, they are still pretty good. The characters have good detail and look great, and the environments are quite varied, though the shadows in the forest area look pretty terrible.

The sound is good too. The combos sound very flashy, and the music is good most of the time, though the battle music gets quite repetitive. The voice acting is good too, and personally, I love all the stupid one liners, though some people might get annoyed by them.

Overall, it's a great presentation package.

In conclusion, Devil May Cry 4 is a good game. It looks great, sound great and most importantly, it plays great. It is slightly lacking in content, and the story is kind of convoluted, but those don't detriment from the game too much. So if you are into flashy, fast paced slash-em ups, or just into action games, go pick this up.

This is my first time of playing Devil May Cry (DMC), I've always wanted to try it and judge for myself which is better DMC or Ninja Gaiden! Now that I have I can be the judge. NG is the better franchise! NG has better gameplay. DMC4 is a better game than NG2. But it's up to you to say who is a better badass, may it be Dante or Ryu (or who has the better slick moves).

    GAMEPLAY 8/10
Since this is my first time. Playing as Nero is hell fun and better than Dante! His different variety animation for his Devil Bust/throws are great especially with bosses. I wasn't used to Dante's move, it's really great that you can switch on the go, advanced players will use this greatly and we'll be amazed how they pull off crazy moves while switching. I am not a pro in this, so I switch when ever I remember or in a critical state/condition or when it is needed. Both of their Devil Triggers are awesome! However Nero's moves are too limited, I haven't purchased all moves for Dante. So I'll say the same, but he has more moves than Nero. Both of their moves are cool!

Now why I say NG has a better gameplay compare to DMC. DMC4 has a great story, but during gameplay, all you do is run around a large map collecting orbs and backtracking. Capcom will never changed, this methods "backtracking" can be noticed in their games like Resident Evil games. It's alright to backtrack, but it's just that the puzzles kills the game, they are really annoying and unnecessary. I got bored half way the game's chapter because all I was doing was running around, solving puzzles, nothing happening much and collecting orbs. If Capcom are to make a new title, they really need to address the gameplay! Either make it a straight pure action game like Ninja Gaiden 2 or backtracking with something to do and something happening like in Ninja Gaiden 1.

The Boss battles are SERIOUSLY EPIC!!! If only Capcom could make a next DMC which just boss battle system fight like!

    GRAPHICS 9/10
I installed the game to the NXE, so loading time is REALLY fast. Feels like the game isn't even using the full power of the Xbox 360. I like the level design, they are really good and very detailed (although some part of the level details look basic), and it has nice lightening effect. But I do feel like the game needed more details, like deep details for the characters, props and the environment.

Don't forget the game plays in 60FPS!!!

    SOUND 8/10
Sound effects are great nothing to worry or complain about. As for the music, same soundtrack is used throughout the game for enemy encounters, they should have used different tracks for newer enemies. The boss musics were GREAT! Is it me or the game, when you are in the castle, a music plays, similar to the one used in Ninja Gaiden 2's New York stage. Nothing to complain about the voice acting, all great! What's up with this Kyrie crap all the time?

    STORY 8/10
Story isn't too deep, but it's great! The game is basically about Nero, who knows the next Devil May Cry could be about Nero. Because Dante seems to be getting old, he didn't had too much storytelling in the game. What's up with this Kyrie thing? all Nero ever yells is Kyrie, when he pronounces her name, he does it in a yelling voice. I didn't even hear him pronounce her voice in a gentle way (even though he spoke gently several times). Moreover the story is good! Though the Kyrie character sucks! She never speaks, only spoke a couple of times in the beginning and in the end.

    PRESENTATION 9/10
I don't know about the PS3 version, but in 360, after clearing the game. You unlock some contents, one of the contents tells you the history of Devil May Cry from 1 to 4. This is good and useful, because the game debuts on an Xbox console, plus new comers like me are getting into the game for the first time. There's a library section that gives a brief details about most of the things in the game.

I would had gotten this game really early, it was because when I tried the demo, I hated the default controls. I've been asking people if previous DMC games allowed you to change the controls. I got different stupid and mix answers. Yes you can change the controls, but LAZY Capcom didn't make a code that allows the game to display inputted mapped button when ever a hint comes up. So you'll be confused when a hint tells you what button to press to do something when you've changed the default controls.

Menu design is alright but too basic.
The bad thing about the save system, saving the game means nothing, it just means it saves your points, bought item and orb collections. If you replay the game next time, the current stage you are in will be gone, you'll have to start all over again. (this is also useful for the replayability).

    GAME LENGTH 9/10
This is why I say DMC4 is better than NG2, for it's replayiablity. The achievements are time consuming and hard. But they'll keep you replaying the game. Thanks to the weapon carry over. You can keep replaying your saved game, earn more points and acquire things you haven't bought in your previous game run. It also has a survival mode, you keep playing till your health runs out or time runs out. I find the Survival mode really fun, you can switch select either Dante or Nero, and the enemies are split in groups and sections. So if you beat a horde of crows, the next enemies to arrive will be Blitz etc

If you think playing in Son of Sparda is hard (which I haven't started), or playing Dante Must die which is impossible. Remember your vitalities and weapons carry over, you can just replay Easy mode, earn some more orbs and play the harder modes.

You can select any chapter you want.

(Some of you may be thinking Ninja Gaiden 2 does have a replayability). Yes it does, but would you replay a game that cost you so much stress 9 times just to get an achievement worth 5g? Yes gamerscore doesn't matter to me, but I just don't like the gameplay for NG2.

    ACHIEVEMENT 3/5
The game has some good achievements! They are worth it, and worth replaying the game for. I've always argued about games not having good achievements, games such as Simpsons "press Start". Developers only add these sort of achievements for gamerpoint, which degrades the system and makes Home's Trophy triumph.
This game has several hard achievements, 3 is a decent score, but why it doesn't get higher is because near half of them they are all secret achievements:/

Cue: Dante, Son of Sparda. The infamous demon hunter is often imitated, but never underestimated. The character who single handedly birthed the era of third person action/ hack and slash/ puzzle platformers is back- this time with somewhat of a rogue apprentice, Nero.

Immediately, you are thrown into a whirlwind of renaissance accents and stylishly crafted dervishes of violence all in the name of overcoming the need to not be alone [as Nero]. This isn't just a story about a delinquent selfishly putting himself in harms way for the sake of being action packed. At the core, it's a tale of love by which nothing can extinguish his determination. Capcom does a masterful job at giving characters their own distinct personalities, but also instilling a sense of moral imperative to complement it.

Given an immediate impression, most will be stunned at just how gorgeous this world has become on a next generation platform. Saying the game runs at 60 fps really doesn't do it justice. To feel the fluidity and hands on connection to the protagonist's reaction, praise is befitting from even the most stringent critic.

The soundtrack further completes the package by providing an eclectic sound of upbeat tunes during battle and epic live recordings throughout the cinematics to help legitimize this work of art.

    Pros:
    Gorgeous visuals
    Aurally intoxicating audio
    Excellent voice acting
    Character progression/commitment
Violence so stylish, its like a flying dance of death

    Cons:
    Abused backtracking throughout the game
    Painful yet rewarding difficulties
    Extremely challenging achievement completion

A history lesson on the story lines should give you a firmer affinity to persevere amidst the harrowing challenges that await you in DMC 4.
These days, video games are cranked out in sheer numbers solely for the financial quarter's real world appreciation, but being able sculpt a digital virtuoso like Devil May Cry 4 really gives the title something that puts it above the rest. A game can be good and have solid visuals, audio, game play, plot, replayability, and achievements but being able to take each of those groups and merge them together with the finesse of a skilled surgeon is what makes this game truly great.

    Gameplay 5/5

The gameplay in this game is awesome. With hundreds of different combos, awesome swords and unbelieveable grapple moves, the combat is like the first devil may cry's, and, at the same time, its so much better. The boss levels are breathtaking. You run through levels, fighting off demonic zombies, wyverns, even these big soldier-type winged demons. Its also platform game that would make the Ratchet and Clank series look like they are wearing training pants. But this is where it gets frustrating. There are sections of the game where you have use your hero, Nero, to grab these blue orbs to get to a higher distance. You have to do this in one part of the game where the ceiling is covered with spikes. Now, these orbs are very close to the ceiling, and every time you hit the ceiling, you fall down in front of hordes of enemies and have to keep on fighting them until the time you don't fall. I, myself, had to do it fourteen times. And, on the first eleven levels, you go through different environments. In the last nine levels, you go through all of them again. But, still, the combat saves everything from failure.

    Story 3/5

Okay, so, in my opinion, Capcom is known for bad storytelling. The story is about a guy called Nero who has this weird arm with demonic powers and lives in a town where Sparda is worshipped. Dante comes and attacks the church where Sparda is worshipped for some reason you won't find out until close to the end of the game. So he sets out to get revenge on Dante and finds out that some old guy is trying to resurrect a Savior. Don't ask me what it is. You find out the rest yourself.

    Graphics 5/5

The graphics in Devil May Cry 4 are beautiful. Clean textures, vibrant worlds, awesome character models, they all rock. The frame rate is also good, and didn't slow down when I played it.

    Replayability 2/5

There are many difficulty modes in Devil May Cry 4, and whenever you beat the game, you get bonus art and videos. So, yeah, maybe its worth it if your a fanboy.
