2K Marin takes a shit on XCOM's origins
http://www.destructoid.com/xcom-shooter-re-emerges-as-the-bu...The Bureau unravels the origins of XCOM, before the organization had state-of-the-art technology, foreign agents, or even knew what it was up against. The story follows intelligence agent William Carter, who finds himself employed by an agency that secretly investigates Russia. It's 1962, the height of the Cold War, and America suspects the Soviet Union has nukes that aren't going to go unused. These rising tensions are quickly transposed when alien bodies arrive, redirecting the agency's efforts. You know what, why can't they just release this as a piece of original, new, IP? Why do they have to go and make up an origin story for XCOM? Esepcially when XCOM already had an origin story, a better one in fact. A bunch of nations got together and form XCOM in the face of alien invasion, it's perfect. Humanity finaly rallies together to fight off invading forces. Countries put their ego's aside and work together for a change.
But now it seems that this is being re-written with the laziest, Hollywood cliche possible. USA! USA! USA! Of course it's the US that started everything up, why wouldn't it be, they're the greatest, bestest nation ever, protectors of the free world, they were fighting aliens before other nations even know aliens existed etc. etc.
So, yeah 2K Marin, thanks for that. What we really needed was yet another America saves the world story, because we've not seen enough of that. They could have at least had some self-awareness and given us Team America: World Police - The Game!
