Monopoly Plus was the first Monopoly game that I got to own and play digitally. Personally, I think that the brand alone makes them often expensive. When I bought this one a couple of days ago it was on sale, so I finally could agree on a price that I thought fair for the fun that I expected and in fact ended up extracting from it.

EDIT: Playing locally with many players, you have the option to play with 1 controller for everyone, taking turns, or having 1 controller per person. In any case, you can set a game with at least 2 or up to 6 players. You can also play alone or with friends adding "bots" and choosing their difficulty from "very easy", "easy", "normal" or "hard options". Playing over Xbox Live though, is a different story. Unfortunately it's not possibile to mix bots and real people and I wasn't able to play with more than 1 person per console.

There's an option to play on an animated board instead of the flat regular one which helps to keep the players attentive and adds to the feeling to be playing a dynamic game.

You can also choose to set a match with "house rules" instead of the classic ones, which are ways to customize games in a particular aspect or another. (EDIT: I've found that these are a good way to keep yourself interested in the game once you already too used to the classic rules. They're small changes that can make a big difference in the usual outcome during gameplay)

In terms of achievements, this is a fast and easy completion. Even though it's worth 1000G, there are only 15 achievements overall, which can be done solo with the AI players in just a few hours. There are ingame challenges which progress is tracked, but they weren't designed in an attractive enough way that will make me play just to reach/unlock them. In a world where grinding is more and more often required from gamers, it's actually a relief not having every aspect of a game tied to an time consuming achievement.

Truth be told, one major downside for me was that once I've figured how to beat the bots - no matter if I chose easy, medium or hard ones - the game lost a lot of its replay value.

All in all, this was a nice experience that allowed me to relive the good ol days when I was a kid and tried to understand what mortgage meant. The design is good, the playability is good, but once I've found the right strategy to always win I lost the interest on it, at least to play alone. I think it's appropriate to say that this is one of those games best suited for casual events, to play with friends or family.

EDIT: one frequent problem that I've had trying to play multiplayer with randoms online is that it's near impossible to reach the right end of a game. It seems that the human nature to run when they can't win takes the best of many players. What's worse, if the host decide to disconnect, let's say that they've lost or they just gotta go, the match is over. That's why I've wanted to host my own games most of the time. So what the developers should have done but didn't was to add an option to automatically fill up the empty spot with an AI. Unfortunately, there's not even an option to set a match with a mix of AI players and real people during MP.

I've also seen many people giving up on a match and choosing a player to hand their cards and money to instead of going "bankrupt", the game's right option to bailout. The result of such unfair action is the killing of the mood for the rest of the players to continue.

Another issue that I've experienced playing MP were a few glitches, like auction screens staying opened after is over or suddenly no button option to press to finish your turn.

TheGreatKoalaYeah I find the game to be little more than what you would expect it to be, and you sum it up nicely

b0seijuWhen editing a review, you should really try not to go: "EDIT: ....". But make the story a solid whole. I personally like reviews which are on, instead of those almost randomly edits in between. Could be me, though!

Monopoly Plus is yet another edition of the classic board game that's been played by millions. Except now instead of losing all of the game pieces, or having to do hard math in order to enjoy the game, the video game adaptation keeps everything nice and clean for you. There's even an option to save your game, so you can come back to it later if you don't have the time to finish right that minute.

The base game runs as you might expect; it's Monopoly. No surprises, twists, turns, or anything super special right out of the gate. The most notable additions are house rules. online multiplayer, and the ability to allow six people to play with only one controller. Outside of that, you essentially are just playing witha a digital set of Monopoly.

Most of the house rules are pretty cool, some of which I actually play with by default. Free parking makes it so that any money that is taken from a player by the game itself, is instead put into a stash in the middle of the board. If a player lands on free parking, they get all of that cash. Another fun one is the third speed die. This makes it so that players can roll higher numbers, be taken to the next unowned property, or in some cases allows them to pick which numbers they rolled to use for movement. The only major downside is that you can't play with multiple house rules.

The look of the game isn't really anything special. You can play with a living board to try and make things more entertaining, but I preferred the classic board to just get things moving faster. One design choice in particular that bugged me a little was that whenever a player rolled, their token would move slowly to their next space. There's an option to skip the animation and go directly to the space you rolled to, but frequently for whatever reason other players would just sit and make you wait for the token to make progress.

You may also find the music and the announcer lines rather repetitive. For a game that pushes you into very similar situations repetitively, a few additional voice lines for the announcer could have, and probably should have been added. The music also just kind of loops for awhile. It isn't really dynamic, and doesn't shift into any other sort of tempo. I guess it would be a little much to ask for more from a Monopoly game.

The achievements are an absolute piece of cake. You can easily manipulate your way into the correct circumstances for unlocking each of them. It won't even take that long either. So if a quick and painless 1000G is what you're looking for, look no further.

Overall I'd say this game is just fine. It doesn't really go beyond expectations. It does exaclty what you expect it to, nothing more, and nothing less. You are going to get exactly what you paid for. And at the end of the day, that's Monopoly.
