Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games with publisher Activision have finally released the long awaited Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, with millions of copies of the game already it’s no lie that the franchise is off the scale with gamers, and with many of us finally getting to see the conclusion to the end of Task Force 141’s story we have to ask, is this the greatest game in the Call of Duty series, or is the brand slowly starting to fizzle out?

Only way you will find out is if you read our exclusive in depth review as we take a look into everything that the game as to offer from campaign to co-op in Spec Ops mode, it’s all included here, so read on to find out exactly what we thought of the finished product.

    Gameplay – 9/10
Call of Duty Modern Warfare revolutionised the way we play first person shooters four years ago by adding in certain elements into the genre that other company’s hadn’t thought of or used until today. The first person mechanics to this day are still amazing to use and with every new game comes a slight new change to the formula we all know and secretively love.

Modern Warfare 3’s story continues almost immediately after the second game as it continues to tell the story leading up to World War 3. We get met with our heroes Captain Price and Soap McTavish who are now on the run after having their worlds turned upside down in the previous game.

The story is mostly comprised of missions that are based on getting from point a to point b whilst taking out enemies in the process, with numerous set pieces to witness as you progress the story never gets boring and by the end of the game you will notice that the campaign should take you roughly five hours to run through especially if your looking out for one of the forty two pieces of Intel that are lying around the games multiple levels.

Its not necessarily all about getting from point a to b though there are some rather interesting levels that are included such as missions where you infiltrate the submarine that many of us have seen from trailers, this is done by having a fast paced ride on a boat that you control whilst avoiding obstacles lying in the water and taking out enemies that will try to stop you.

You also have a mission in which you control an AC-130 and have to watch out over your team that who are on the ground waiting for you to get rid of all of the enemies from above, to do this you will be shooting at tanks and helicopters as well as ground enemy troops whilst constantly switching from the AC-130 to your troops on the ground to help progress through the mission.

Without the diversity many gamers who have played some of the other Call of Duty’s will feel that some of the missions are very samey, and that the feeling of been there done that will apply. Some of the missions in this game will feel exactly like that, but its good that certain areas have been switched around and updated to something better and interesting whilst maintaining all of that high octane action we crave.

Spec ops as also made a return this time and not only does it come with a brand new set of missions to please everybody who loved spec ops back in Modern Warfare 2, but also the mode comes packed with a new Survival Mode where you go head to head against ever enemies who constantly get harder as waves go on and on.

Spec ops can be played in solo if you wish but some aspects of the mode will require you to play with a friend in either, online, local or private co op. With all of the mission’s available you will have more fun working through them with a friend especially if you decide to take the game on in veteran. The missions themselves are of a decent quality but sometimes I got the feeling that none felt quite so epic or of the quality of those that featured in Modern Warfare 2.

With the addition of survival mode though, you get a nice little addition that takes your standard horde modes or even the zombie mode if you will, and they add a nice little spin to how people play game types such as these.

This is done by adding in the elements of letting players level up exactly how they would do in the normal multiplayer, you level up exactly the same as you would do if you was playing multiplayer as well, each kill you get will award you with points and if you look at the bottom left of the screen you will notice two random mini challenges that if you can complete them in a wave you will get bonus experience points that will go to levelling up.

Not only will you level up in survival missions, but you will also level up by playing the normal mission mode which makes things a little easier especially if you want to take on the veteran modes. It’s important to note though any levelling you do in spec ops will not transfer over to your normal multiplayer profile which is a shame.

Any experience that you earn will not only help you level up, but it also goes into your bank account in game which you can then use to purchase items that you have unlocked or items that you think may come in handy at a later date. Some items will remain locked up until you get to a higher level and once you hit that level you will then be able to purchase them for a set amount of money.

With how many fans that love the multiplayer aspect of Call of Duty you will be glad to know that the mode as returned and is now bigger then ever as it packs in old modes that gamers loved and cherished from previous games whilst adding in new modes such as Kill Confirmed.

With having two different types of playlists available to play, anybody who was a fan of the wager matches in Black Ops will love the fact that those modes have been brought over into Modern Warfare 3. You will find these under your advanced playlist tab though as opposed to the normal playlist option showing you the normal game types you can play.

When you start playing multiplayer don’t expect to be able to jump in and play any mode that you want to though as most will be locked off until you are a higher level in order to take part in them. Luckily though none of the modes require you to be that high of a level in order to jump in and play, and with how fast you can level up at the start of the game it won’t be long until you can take part in fun game types such as Headquarters or Search and Destroy.

Again you will be able to level up and unlock new items, gear and perks as time goes on which will help you when taking on the many players who will pass through, and with seventy levels to work your way through and ten different prestige’s you will no doubt be spending a lot of time playing through the game.

Whilst the single player won’t take you very long to work your way through no matter what difficulty you play on, spec ops and multiplayer mode will easily eat through most of your time and will easily warrant the price you pay for the game, these modes are well thought out and very much fleshed out with lots of different options.

    Graphics – 8/10
The second you load up Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 you will be met with a nice little introductory video where Makarov explains what Modern Warfare is and how the world can be altered just because of one mans vision, the overall look of the video is spectacular though and helps set the mood for the rest of the game and what you’re roughly going to expect.

When the video ends you will be met with the menu system which can easily be described as been there done that with the past two games but its still clean and effective and you will find yourself browsing the menus as fast as possible with little problem with navigating around them.

Each of the menus comes with their own sub menus which go into even greater detail and more options for you to delve deeper into, these consist of both the campaign sub menu, spec ops and multiplayer. Depending on which one you choose will depend on what options are available to you, but the overall layout and presentation is great.

When you eventually get around to starting the campaign you will notice that like previous Call of Duty games the loading screens are presented in a story format that will have certain characters talking about what the next move is, these are normally presented in a worldwide map that will see a camera pan in and out on certain areas of the world or certain key elements of the story between certain characters. The loading screens as normal are really well made and can be both informative and nice to look at.

It’s no lie that the Call of Duty engine is now starting to show its age, it uses the Infinity Ward engine which in itself is a modified Quake 4 engine and was originally made for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The engine has gone through some tweaks and changes over the years to help make the life of the engine that little bit longer, and even after all these years the engine still looks absolutely fantastic and runs at that silky smooth sixty frames per second for ultimate intense action.

Unfortunately though the campaign and some parts of Spec ops suffer from slow down issues especially when the game is forced to try and do too much in such a short amount of time, this is only a minor gripe though as it doesn’t happen all of the time and does manage to pack in an awful lot of action.

The campaign in itself is full of set pieces and nearly every few minutes of gameplay will be split up with some sort of explosive disaster which will see the camera pan and show you the spectacle of what is currently going on around you, some of these set pieces are well done and there is even a section in the game where it pays homage to parts of the older Modern Warfare games.

The character models themselves look great from a short distance but if you get close up to them you will notice the jagged edges that are used to draw around them, again this comes down to the ageing engine issue of the game, facial expressions are pretty good though and help set the mood no matter if you’re shooting somebody or standing at the other end of the barrel of their gun.

The guns are also well modelled and look just like their real life counterparts, it’s great to see new gun designs have made it into the mix as well as new attachments that may come with them for example secondary zooms which can just be flipped into position. Shootouts and explosions that come from using the guns themselves are great to witness though and you always feel satisfied about what is going on around you as you watch bullets and explosions fly past you.

Whilst the graphics are pretty good for an engine as old as it is, I think it is about time Activision started allowing some development time for a newer engine to be developed to really help push the game forward and please the fans even more then they already are.

    Sound – 10/10
Sound is always a massive part of any boxed product that goes onto store shelves and with Call of Duty this could be none truer. With every iteration of the game the way the sound is produced and implemented into either the story of the multiplayer is always improved throughout.

Modern Warfare 3 is no exception to this rule and places massive emphasis on the gun work and explosions that go on the game. It seems like Infinity Ward went back to the sound design for the Modern Warfare three and stripped down the audio for the weaponry. The reason I say this is that most of the weapons that are featured in game now, when fired sure sound like they pack a punch to whoever is on the other side of your crosshairs.

The voice acing is also top notch with many of the original games character actors returning to take on either familiar roles or brand new ones, British voice actors Billy Murray and Craig Fairbass both return to pick up the roles of Captain Price and a new squad member that you use for the London section of the game.

What makes the voice acting so great is that no matter what character is talking you always get the feeling that this could all one day happen, we may each find ourselves in the predicaments that these false characters find themselves in, they help bring the story to life and hit home that lives will be lost and you need to fight for what you believe in.

If that wasn’t enough either the orchestral score that plays out in the background during certain sections of the game is a real blast to hear and every single song that plays out always feels like it’s in the right spot, you can so easily go from fast up beat score because you’re running away for the militia to a very slow and sorrowful piece because you find yourself in a situation that you may not be able to get yourself out of.

It really does appear that with the upgrades to the sound in the game, could they really have gotten any better, everything just seems to hit the spot be it the music or the voice acting put into the game. Even all of the little bits of sound that are in the multiplayer seem to work well also. I think it will be hard to top the efforts made in this game when the next Call of Duty comes out, but all other games studios should take note this is how you make a game that immerses you into the story and game itself by sound alone.

    Difficulty – 8/10
Difficulty in the Call of Duty series as always been something fans have longed for, if you set your minds back to the earlier iterations of the franchise, some of the levels were so tough you would spend countless hours replaying checkpoints over and over only to get killed by grenade spam.

In Modern Warfare 2 Infinity Ward decided to reduce the grenade spam issue and also remove enemy spawn closets so that enemies couldn’t always spawn as you’re reloading which meant you would need to keep doing the same thing over and over until you got lucky. This in turn made the game extra easy to breeze through in veteran difficulty as long as you took your time.

This time around the grenade spam seems to still be non active, you will have times however when two grenade markers will appear on your screen in which you must navigate away from, nothing over excessive as what we have seen in the past though. Enemy spawn closets also make a return in this game but not on every single section of a level. Normally they will be placed in areas of the campaign or spec ops where you are bottlenecked or where you are timed to get through a certain area, when I say timed, I also mean you will be on a hidden timer that when it hits zero more enemies will spawn in a wave. If you can take them out quickly enough you will have an easier time in getting through then taking your time to progress.

The game itself comes with four difficulty settings in which can be used on Campaign and Spec-Ops mode, these range from easy to veteran, and for the first time in the franchises history it appears that all of the difficulty settings have had a slight tweaking to make them more of challenge, with easy you can still plough through the enemies with ease with little more then your knife but on difficulties from normal onwards you will need to be more tactical. Running into an enemy onslaught will only get you killed or badly wounded, it will take a really skilful player to be able to charge on the enemy and walk away unscathed.

Veteran being the hardest difficulty and in the past the difficulty that has taken no prisoners when it comes to how fast and easy you can die, you will be glad to know its not as hard as it as been in the past and if you take your time, spot enemies and take them out quickly and efficiently you will have little problem with getting through the game.

Spec-ops on veteran may prove to be a problem though as you are sometimes timed harshly on getting through a specific area or to do a certain challenge, with how easily you can get shot and downed you may find yourself replaying sections over and over with yourself or a partner seeing as how some can only be done in co-op. Normally it appears though that if you work out a strategy you will have little problem progressing onwards.

Multiplayer in Call of Duty will be as difficult as you want it to be, the later you leave it to join in the fight online the harder it will possibly get with other players having better weaponry then yourself or perks that they have unlocked which you don’t have. Obviously Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games have tried to keep the multiplayer as fair as possible. But better weaponry or custom class’s wont make up for the bog standard kits you start the game with.

Overall Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is a challenging game in some areas, but with how challenging it can be it never takes away from the fun of the overall experience and you will stay with the game until it’s complete no matter what difficulty or mode you play the game on.

    Achievements - 7/10
If you’re a fan of the Call of Duty series of games then by now you will be accustomed to what the achievements normally consist of, if you’re not a gamer who has followed the franchise then let me explain them for you.

Modern Warfare 3 comes with your standard story progression achievements giving you ten gamerscore for every chapter you complete within the game, you will also get a further twenty five gamerscore for completing sets of missions in veteran which will ultimately lead to you getting the achievements for completing the game and completing the game on either hard or veteran difficulty.

There are also a few achievements that are tied to doing certain things in specific missions, unfortunately there aren’t many of these types of achievements which are a bit of a downer but it’s still good to see they got included this time around. These can come in the shape of eliminating three tanks with one shot from an AC-130 to taking out four cars with four mortar shells which will no doubt be a little tricky for some people.

Just like previous games, Modern Warfare 3 comes with no online multiplayer achievements, instead opting to focus the rest of the in game achievements to Spec Ops mode. The list here is a little more varied then that which was featured in Modern Warfare 2, and Infinity Ward have been really creative with some of the achievements on offer whilst others leave a lot to be desired.

You have achievements based on getting all of the stars available in mission mode and gaining at least one star on all of the missions available in game. With good team work and skill plus time you will find that these won’t be as bad as they sound with some of the missions being relatively easy and others having some difficulty spikes.

There is also an achievement for getting through a spec ops mission on hardened or veteran difficulty with neither you or your partner going into a revive state, obviously this will require two people to do but if you take your time then its easy enough to do.

Last notable achievements are for buying all of the items in spec ops survival across multiple games; these will come in the shape of defence survival, attacking survival and air defence survival. To be able to get all of the upgrades you will need to spend time levelling up in spec ops either alone or with your partner so that the upgrades will unlock and be ready for purchase.

Overall it’s a good list but it’s still a list we see year in year out, getting the full one thousand points will take slightly longer then the other games but it’s still more then possible to achieve everything that is possible.

    Summary
All in all no matter what you want to think of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a superb game, it finally concludes the story and possibly sets it up for another instalment. Not only that though the campaign is just a little longer then the other games in the series over the past couple of years with that added difficulty to give a bit more of a challenge, all this means the single player is one of the best yet. It doesn’t hit the heights of the first game or the second for that matter but it’s still good for what it is.

Add in the upgraded spec ops mode you will be spending a whole bunch of time levelling up in, you will quite easily be pleased until you’re ready to go online and show off your skills and play with all of the new settings that are present. The maps could have been a little better for online play or even a little bit larger for that matter but what again is on offer is more then sufficient.

Overall Modern Warfare is a great game and it will be interesting to see where the series goes over the next couple of years.

    Overall - 8/10 Great

If you are going to leave a negative vote, please let it be because you don’t like my review, not my opinions of the game, and leave a comment so that I may improve my review for future readers.

Campaign: This campaign completely blew me away. There was always so much action around every turn, even during the more stealthy missions. The diversity of all the missions was very well done, as was the entire campaign as a whole. Infinity Ward really outdid themselves this time, and continued the story perfectly from the last two Modern Warfares. Definitely the best FPS campaign from the past year, as well as the best Call of Duty campaign. 10/10

Multiplayer: This game’s multiplayer has only improved from the last couple, being reminiscent of Call of Duty 4, while still being newer and more innovative. The new features range from having your gun level up separately from you and getting proficiency upgrades along the way, to the Prestige Shop, where you can spend Prestige Tokens that you earn by prestiging, or by having prestiged in the past 4 games. Using the Prestige Shop, you can do many things, such as buy an extra custom class, take a weapon through your prestige to have the entire time you level up for the next one, or get 2 hours of double XP time for you or your gun. There is also a new multiplayer mode called Kill Confirmed, in which each time a person is killed, they drop dog tags. To score points for your team you must pick up the enemy team’s dog tags. Picking up your own teammate’s dog tags will deny the other team the points for the kill. 9/10

Spec Ops/Survival: Spec Ops has returned from MW2, with more missions and more fun! You can play alone or with a friend on Regular, Hardened or Veteran difficulty. Playing with a friend is easier, because you get downed instead of dying, and your friend can revive you, or vice versa. Survival is Infinity Ward’s take on a Horde game mode in which you fight off endless waves of enemies to make it as far as you can. During and at the end of each round, you are given money based on headshots, amount of kills, type of kills, and more. At the end of each round, you are given 30 seconds to prepare yourself by buying weapons, attachments, equipment, and air support. You also have a rank here, separate from multiplayer, and as you rank up, more will become available to buy during rounds. 9/10

Achievements: The achievements are almost identical to the other Call of Duty games, beat every mission, do it on veteran, do this in this mission, etc. There are also achievements that are done in Spec Ops and/or survival. Overall the achievement list is a fun one, and you will enjoy yourself completing it. 8/10

    Pre-Realease: "man, f**k MW3, I'll never play that sh*t"
    Post-Realease: "I guess a rental couldn't hurt"

Campaign: I've spent a good portion of my days shooting nazis in the old Call of Duty games, which means I'm sort of a veteran whose tour of duty never really ended. I was a bit skeptical of playing this game to be honest. But nonetheless, I gave the game a shot. I was happy with the final product, though I would say that the campaign didn't really go in the direction I was thinking. But those are just assumptions, and everyone has those. The gameplay really doesn't shift in any real direction, holding the game back. But the impressive set pieces definitely made my eyebrows raise. I wouldn't say they rushed it, but I would say that if given more time they could have produced a better game. The campaign for me lasted about 5 hours. Not bad. It's great to see all your memorable moments from the previous Modern Warfare come back to haunt you. I'll admit, I put the game down a few months ago, but believe me when I say that if there were any real memorable weapons I would have put them somewhere around here. But there wasn't. When it came to weapons and sky attacks the only real way to express my disappointment would probably be through exacerbated sighs. But hey, the characters are impressive, and the environments dazzle the eyes.

Multi-player: Definitely an improvement from MW2 and Black Ops. The gun upgrades are handy and steady throughout player progression. Some guns are better then others and it will show when you are a low level. The perks are pretty even, and believe it or not, they still help the player get the desired kill ratio. The maps are a good range and they tried their best to rid all maps of camping spots. Notice I didn't say that they are void of the troublesome areas.

Spec-Ops: This was probably where I spent most of my time with the game. I love how they separated classes so that you could level up your soldier according to your performance based on that spec-ops. And sure, I would've loved zombies, but people are good targets too. Other then that I really can't say to much more on this game.

    Over-all: Eh, it wasn't bad.

    A retrospective review.

I bought this game when it came out, excited to finally play the sequel to Modern Warfare 2 after the decent but ultimately disappointing Black Ops. The campaigns in all Call of Duty games are basically interchangable to me; they're fine, but not the focal point or the draw. This was all about the multiplayer, and since Black Ops used different netcode than MW2, I was hoping MW3 would be a return to form.

    It wasn't.

It's been over a year since the game came out, and I've finally decided that I damn well hate it. Almost everything about it. The campaign is short but definitely not very sweet and it suffers from the same issue that the multiplayer maps do; there's a lot of junk littered everywhere, but none of it can be used for sensible cover. The campaign is nothing but a glorified corridor shooter, which is a pain to suffer through on Veteran difficulty, and the multiplayer is a laggy clusterfuck.

First of all, the netcode did not improve after Black Ops. In fact, it's even worse in MW3. Constantly, opponents will just fly around and instakill you, leaving you zero chance to react. This can sometimes be countered by instantly dropshotting when they appear, but often it lags so badly that not even that works. The netcode has been adressed and repeatedly patched, but it hasn't really made any worthwhile difference. What's frustrating about it is that even if you end up in what should be a perfect match, where every player has four bars, it still lags and encounters are still laden with frustrating, infuriating bullshit. In fact, four bar matches are even worse than two or three bar matches!

Not only is the netcode poor, but the overall game design is poorly thought out and balanced. The support streaks are, perhaps, the worst feature the franchise has ever seen. The fact that you can earn "killstreaks" across multiple deaths has lead to much of the community playing like irritating spazzes, dashing around everywhere because they don't care if they die. They still get that stealth bomber and EMP that ruins the fun for everyone but them, so they're good either way. I'm not saying everyone should camp, definitely not, but in previous games there was always a certain balance to matches. People would slow down and play more cautiously if they were a couple of kills away from their streak, and players who would just sprint everywhere at all times were incredibly rare. There was an ebb and flow, and the support streaks have basically completely eradicated that.

Not that it matters, since almost all of the maps are frustrating and boring to play. They're littered with unfair encounters where one side of a corridor gets a piece of cover and the other does not, and suffer a distinct lack of sensible, understandable flow. Where previous games had maps comparable to little mazes filled with opportunities and interesting encounters, the maps in MW3 feel more like gladiator arenas. Just like a big circle that they toss 12 spazzes into so they can fight to see who gets a stealth bomber first. That's not to mention how incredibly drab and grey all the maps are. Playing the free download remake of Terminal in MW3, and then playing the much more colorful and vivid version of the same map in MW2, really creates a stark contrast.

To summarize; everything about MW3 really sucks. It really does. It's laggy, support streaks are stupid, it's way too easy to shoot assault killstreaks down so they're not very fun to use either... The list goes on. Let's not even get into the ridiculously imbalanced weapons like the MP7, Type-95 and FAD, all of which serve to make the multiplayer thoroughly frustrating and boring.

Pretty much the only fun additions to this game are the Specialist killstreaks, which is actually a pretty fun and great idea, coupled with the MOAB. The Spec Ops missions are also pretty fun, even if they're a little too easy on Veteran difficulty. Everything else, though... Sucks. Sucks so bad.

And, to clarify, this is not coming from some CoD hater. I have 70+ days - yes, days - played in MW2. I am 20th prestige in MW3, with gold camos for every weapon unlocked. This is coming from a massive CoD fanatic, one that hopes that MW4 doesn't signal the final nail in the coffin for this series. Because MW3 certainly put a few nails in already.

MW3 continues the struggle of Task Force 141, who have become disavowed and aided by Russian Loyalists, against Makarov's surviving Ultranationalists and starts off almost exactly from MW2. War has now erupted between America and Russia. WW3 has begun...

Modern Warfare 3 has a nice and straight-forward plot with some excellent pieces with nice dialogue from characters like Soap, Price, Makarov and even Walcroft. There are nice variations in voice acting which helps it from becoming too generic and similar. The story adds some new characters like Yuri, Frost and the SAS Michael Burns who are all playable and their stories intertwine nicely. Their own events help shape gameplay and story for the other characters and that all fits together but even with these characters, you never really lose track of Task Force 141 and their mission with the key factor being that the Campaign is rather short (4-7 hours depending on difficulty and skill) which means you don't really forget. But you know that with COD you're not getting a lengthy MP experience, you're getting a quick, nice and to-the-point SP that doesen't keep you very far from what made you buy MW3. You get to play in different locations around the globe -mainly in Europe- which are different from each other keeping repetivity from becoming a major problem. 'But I'm sure that if you've played a load of CODs and there are lots then that isn't really a problem'. The graphics however, for me, are. I've talked to others about this and we've all come to a conclusion: The graphics are quite outdated. They are from 4 years ago and much has changed since then, It's this factor that reminds you what COD-Haters keep saying: COD keeps on recycling as long as people keep buying and unlike COD 4, this game hasn't really changed anything from before. Of course for a lot of people, that isn't a bad thing, it all matters on opinion or who you talk to. The engine does add a few things but It's pretty much the same thing as before. While the graphics aren't very good, gameplay is solid and while some events in MW3 are predictable like Soap's death and Yuri shooting Makarov out of nowhere and then being killed, the story is nice but isn't amazingly compelling like other CODs.

Ah, MP what the developers really care about in this game. After playing Black Ops (which wasn't really that bad but It wasn't great either) I told myself not to get another COD game as after 4 months I would just end up trading it like I did with MW2, COD4 and BO. However common sense failed and I let my friend's words get to my head. They spoke and spoke about it so to actually make some time on my XBOX LIVE I got it just to play with them and they ended up getting FIFA 12 a week later *sigh* facepalm.

So MP is the meat of the franchise. While this game does not revolutinise FPS gameplay, It's still pretty addicting like the others. The Leveling system is nice but how the server decides who is on your team is pretty bad with High Prestiges going into one team and I'm stuck with F.N.Gs. (Just to use Gaz's Quote from COD 4 BTW). The maps are nicely detailed but I'm pretty sure you'll have a map you just despise for some reason. There's no floaty feel to the guns and noob tubes/grenades have been toned down dramatically. You can't even kill someone with Blast Shield with a Semtex unless It's a perfect stick. Some Over-Powered perks from the last game have either been removed or something has been added to counter them which brings me on to something. Have you ever realised the somehow they take out an Over-Powered Gun or feature only to add something equally Over-Powered. And while the MP is solid, I wouldn't reccomend talking on Game Chat and Gun consistency with certain weapons is just quite awful. However, the MP is addicting and if you want to get the best out of your experience, don't take what happens seriously because raging on a game like COD is just pointless.

Overall MW3 is a good, solid shooter that is both rewarding and fun to play... sometimes. The Campaign is easy to get into and the story while predictable has some fun times like Chasing Volk through France and hanging Makarov while smoking. It might not be the most satisfying end but at least you get to kill Makarov like hell if you liked Soap and Yuri and Team Metal. If you want a quick, addictive shooter try MW2 (Hardly any difference). For Non-COD fans there's definetely loads of better games as others will tell you that are worth more for their value.

    -8/10

[SIDE NOTE: This is my rating on Spec-Ops and Survival, I found it difficult to express my thoughts so I did a straight-forward summary, This is connnected with the Overall Score above]

+ Extreme replay value with a friend
+ Some Spec-Ops missions just add some backstory
    - Difficulty (Spec-Ops Survival when playing with someone young)
    - Missions can get frustrating and annoying

    Modern Warfare 3 Review
Single Player The single player in this game continues straight from where MW2 left us flying across Afghanistan to a doctor in India. The Call of duty games are known for their great single player campaigns and this installment is no different. The campaign sees us fight in many well known locations from New York to London. When playing through the campaign you forget everything happening around you at just play through it. Its very well planned out and written and programmed but its length lets it down because it only takes about three to four hours from start to finish.

Multiplayer The multiplayer on this game is only slightly different from previous installments with basically the same game modes for example Team Death match, Search and Destroy or domination. There are a few new arrivals though with Team Defender and Kill Confirmed.

The maps give the game a new refreshing approach to shooting games with a wide variety of maps from snowy bases to traditional fishing villages. The leveling system is practically the same from older Call of duties level up a certain amount of times then prestige and start over again.

Special Ops Special Ops returns from the previous Modern Warfare but improves it tremendously with a whole new set of original missions and online matchmaking which is good because if you do not want to play solo Spec Ops and you have not got any friends online then you can match make to find a random and play although some times its hard to find someone.

Survival Mode is a completely new to Call Of duty if you are not counting Zombies mode in World at War or Black Ops.You are pitted against endless rounds of enemies getting gradually harder then you get helicopters trying to kill you then at the same time you have a Juggernaut with an LMG coming at you. However you can fight back with weapons you can buy and bring in squads to help you fight them off. You also have a vary of equipment at your dispose form extra flash bangs to sentry guns! All the maps in multiplayer can be used in survival with each of them having a leader board so you can compare your rank to friends.

Achievements: The achievements in this game are nothing new to the series with mostly campaign achievements and a few Spec Ops ones. As usual there are not multiplayer achievements. The achievements are not that hard with an even easier veteran campaign. And just the usual mission specific achievements like shoot five enemies while in slow motion.

    Conclusion

    Campaign: 4.5/5
    Multiplayer: 4/5
    Spec Ops: 5/5

if youre going to rate negatively could you please leave a comment explaining how i could improve please smile

    Campaign Story : 3/10
The game follows on from the end off MW2 but you could still play the game and understand it with out playing the last game. All of the levels are about getting your person from point 1 to point 2 whilst killing all of the bad guys which doesn't get boring but is a bit repetitive after a while. I think that the campaign far to short with a maximum of 4-5 hours game play before it is completed. It is quite confusing I didn't quite understand what the story line was until my 2nd play through. part way through through the campaign there was a bit at the end of the level in London that was totally not needed they randomly gassed a family, which was not needed to make the game better and it just looked stupid! The story line didn't grab me like I wanted to, I didn't feel involved I just felt like I was just running round shooting people for the sake of it so I would not recommend this games campaign to anyone.

    Graphics 8/10

The graphics did look pretty good but I am not really an expert in graphics I concentrate more on the game than what it looks like, but I do know that they have not updated there graphics engine it is still the exact same. But saying that is still good everything looks like it should and I did enjoy the scenery of London and Paris but still they should have improved from the last game to make it 10/10.

    Sound 8/10

I think this is the only good thing about the game besides the new survival mode the sounds by Infinity ward in the game sounded very realistic and keep you engaged in the game by keeping you awake with all of the explosions and gun fire. The voice acting isn't half bad. overall I think that the sounds used in the game are spectacular.

    Multilayer 7/10

I thought that overall the new multilayer was pretty much exactly the same as the last MW series with the exception of the new weapons and maps and obviously the new inclusion of weapon levels which mean that as you gain xp to level yourself up your weapon also gains that xp. New levels gives you new attachments, camos and perks for that weapon until it peaks at level 31 and earns a gold camo for the weapon which to be honest looks pretty cool for the weapons I have unlocked it for so far. but the down fall of online is not the actual game its the players of the game people sitting in corners hiding waiting for you playing seriously instead of playing the game for fun. The weapons used are very unbalanced people using a sniper always get one hit kills short range or long where as using a shot gun never kills them so the balanced needs to be addressed. So overall I think that the actual multilayer is good but the players on it are not and the game is to popular to make it any fun to play. At least there are loads more maps than usual in COD games.

    Spec Ops: 9/10

Like I motioned in the sound part of the review this in my opinion is the best part of the game it is split into two parts survival mode and the mission mode the survival mode can be played ether with one or two players where there are rounds like in zombies where cpus spawn gradually more spawn and get more health before you eventually die but you also earn money by getting kills and with that money you can weapons and kill streaks to help you out also this mode is available to be played on any of the multilayer map. The other side of spec ops is like original where you had to do specific things to get stars by completing levels this is hard to do by yourself but with two players it makes it more more fun because you can have a laugh doing it.

    Overall
    :
I would rate this game a 7.5/10 for the online and spec ops. anybody buying this game solely for the campaign don't as it is to small and boring but if you buying this for the online prepare for the same as MW2 but i would still recommend this games for the spec ops alone and should defiantly be on your Christmas wish list if you don't have it already as it will give you some fun for a while.

I've been hooked on the Modern Warfare series since CoD 4 came out way back in 2007. In my opinion, it was the greatest game I have every played. I played MW2 and I wasn't as satisfied unfortunately. So I was hoping MW3 would get me in the mood again.

The campaign is basically the closure of the trilogy. It wraps up with you finally taking out Makarov and putting and end to this war. You will travel all across the globe here, from North America to Europe and even to Africa. The campaign is definitely short nut it is very meaningful ONLY if you have played the previous 2 Modern Warfare games. If this is your first, towards the end of the campaign, you will feel lost and the campaign has much more of an affect on you as the player if you played through the other 2 before you play this one.

Unfortunately, I have noticed that the degree of difficulty has decreased immensely from the first game. I remember crying in frustration because i couldn't beat some missions and then MW2 comes and it is a bit easier than CoD 4 i noticed. Then this comes out and i easily breeze through the campaign in an evening of playing. And no this is not because of the skills i have acquired from playing the games so much because I go back and I STILL have troubles with the missions on veteran. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has noticed this as well. The developers are well aware of this and do this on purpose so they can rush you through the campaign where they can get you to play the beefy.....

Multiplayer modes. Yes the game modes that have made Call of Duty billions of dollars and gave the franchise a name for itself 4 years ago (and please, don't bother saying that people don't buy this for just the multiplayer because we all know that is bs). Me personally, I have over 70 days play time across all 3 Modern Warfare's, so I say this next segment only out of experience. Modern Warfare 3 may be one of the most unfair multiplayer experiences i have ever had the displeasure to experience. I purchased the game the day it came out and thank god I did because the people who play it now are pathetic. You can get a good amount of kills with the same guns every time! those are the only guns people use and that is because none of the other guns kill people in the required amount of bullets. I know all of you out there who play this game know the guns I'm talking about but let's just get this out of the way for those of you who don't know. If you want to be an OP player who gets yelled at in every killcam and during pre game lobby here are the guns you should use:

    Assault Rifles:
    SCAR-L
    Type 95
    G36c
    ACR 6.8

    Sub machine Guns:
UMP 45 (oh what a surprise a gun that shoots 9mm rounds kills in 2 bullets way to realize your fail from MW2 facepalm)
    PP901
    P90
    MP-7

    Shotguns:
    Striker

Yes btw every single smg has the power of an assault rifle and can kill faster than one so just a heads up there to "help your multiplayer experience be at it's fullest"

Oh, and let's not forget how much fun it is to have people spawn behind you because we all know that's what we love to happen when we play!!!

Infinity Ward has released a handful of patches to improve this game within IT'S FIRST MONTH OF RELEASE and there are STILL problems with it so take that as you will.

Now enough with my rant about the multiplayer. The OTHER AND MUCH BETTER VERSION OF MULTIPLAYER, Spec Ops, returns with a new set of missions for you and your buddy to tackle together. But also they included a survival mode which is just like Halo's firefight mode or Gears of War's Horde mode. There are waves of enemies coming after you and you keep killing them until they finally kill you. This is most likely Infinity Ward's Version of zombies, but i find this much better, just saying.

Unfortunately since multiplayer is a main component of this game, my rating is reflected upon that. Overall i would give this a 3.5/5. The campaign is great and memorable, but only if you played the previous 2 campaigns will you get the full appreciation of it. The multiplayer is broken and all those guns that were mentioned before will still be OP until they release an update around the time of release for Black Ops 2, because that's how Activision is, so your gonna have to deal with it. The Addition to the Survival mode of Spec Ops is a welcome treat as well.

Yes, I did rant about the multiplayer, you can take it as it is or stick to your opinion about it but this is something other websites and magazines leave out because they play it for a day maybe just for a review. Its the people who have to rate the multiplayer experience for what it really is and frankly with 70ish days under my belt with playing Modern Warfare games, I can straight up say that this multiplayer is not fair in the least and it needs to be fixed. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that as well.

*edit* I really do not care how many people like/dislike this review. This is what the game is and there are it's flaws go into any multiplayer session right now and i guarantee people will say the same thing. So you can choose to deal with the fact the multiplayer is broken, unfair, and in constant need of updates or you can ignore this it's no skin off my back. Here is where you can find a list of every single multiplayer update (there have been 7 to date, btw) that was made in the first 30 days of the game's release and everything that they had to fix and also some links about the things that are still wrong with the game even after 7 patches released in a month's time:

I have loved every CoD and I am the same with MW3.With some of the interesting new features, infinity ward have certainly succeeded in progressing the CoD series further. So anyway on to the aspects of the gameplay

    Graphics

Personally I think the graphics of MW3 have a rather quick and smooth feeling behind them and are amazing,I would give the graphics a rating of 9/10.

    Sound

Now I thought that the sounds in MW3 would be quite new.But because of this expectation,I was rather dissapointed by the sounds. To me,it feels like most of the sounds, apart from the dialogue in the campaign, have been mostly copied from MW2.Apart from this the sounds were not that bad.Overall,My score for the sound would be a 6/10

    Campaign

Now I wont reveal too much of the plot of the campaign here due to people who might not have MW3 yet reading it.What I will say is that the plot has kept me interested in the campaign through every level. The plot carried on from the VERY end of MW2 and done a great job of carrying on,and finishing, the modern warfare trilogy. The amazing campain for this game has got a score of 10/10 from me

    Multiplayer

Now this has been what most people have probably bought MW3 for.And I dont blame them.So far I am loving the multiplayer on MW3.Some of the new features like the prestige shop, new game modes for online (Kill Confirmed,Team Defender),and new private match game modes (Infected,Drop Zone,Team Juggernaut,Juggernaut,Gun Game,One In The Chamber, have made me rather enjoy my multiplayer experience on MW3.The MP servers are brilliant with the connection.Overall,I would give the multiplayer 9/10

    Spec ops/Survival

Now most people will be familiar with MW2 spec ops mode I presume?Well its back! But,coming with it,is an all-new mode called survival mode. Now the title is a bit of a giveaway as to what it is,but for people who dont know,I will go over it a bit.Survival mode is a new mode for up to 2 players. It follows the idea of the amazing cod 5 and 7 game mode, zombies. So as you may have guessed basically it is the MW3 remake of zombies.you go up against an endless number of enemies that come wave by wave. You start off with a pistol and get points for each kill along with a few bonuses that appear on the bottom of your screen such as rampages, knife streaks, kill streaks and more that you can pull off for some extra cash. For the first 3 rounds at the end of each round a new armory is enabled. What you do is you go to these armories and you can buy your gear.At the end of the first round you enable the weapons armory, which is,duh, your place to buy new guns and ammo. Then at the end of the second round you enable the equipment amory. This is your place for new equipment such as more armor, self revives and frags and flashes and such. Then at the end of the third round you enable the air support armory. From here you can get all kinds of air support such as a riot sheild squad to help you out, care packages that contain a perk of your choice, predator missiles and an ac130 air strike. Also you have a seperate ranking system in mp and spec ops/survival.All together I would give this part of the game a 10/10

    My Conclusion

In the end,I would say MW3 has been a very enjoyable game so far.I would reccomend it to anyone who has not already got it and is thinking about doing so.I will, like many others, carry on playing MW3 for a while. My final score for MW3 would be 9/10

Thank you for reading my MW3 review

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Review

    Better then Modern Warfare 2.

    Campaign Mode (****)
The campaign mode in this game was pretty fun just like the one in MW2. I first played it on Recruit because I figured it would take too long and be boring on Veteran, so I beat it on Recruit. Then I later decided the campaign was fun, so I played it on Veteran, and beat it.

Anyway, it wasn't a super difficult campaign even on Veteran. But some parts were very annoying. For me it would be I was going through it easily, as a breeze, then comes a part where it takes me 5+ tries, and a lot of time.

The levels were pretty well mixed, as in there were some stealth missions, some heavy assault missions, or some more kinda special ops kinda missions. The mix made it easy to play like 5 levels in a row, other then playing 1 or 2 and getting bored, not playing it for a week, then playing it again. And the campaign taking 2 months to finish.

The story was pretty good. It continued on from the MW2 story. Anyway, the campaign mode I'd give 4/5 stars.

    Special Ops Mode (*****)
By far the funnest mode in the game. Which includes Special Ops, and Survival mode. I liked Special Ops in this game more then MW2 because you could actually play online with some random player in Special Ops, where in MW2 you had to have a friend or something. And I had no one at home to play with, and none of my friends liked Special Ops Missions. And the missions were hard alone.

Anyway, the new Survival mode is sick. I like the wave kinda games. There is also a whole bunch of maps you can play on, and weapons, perks, equipment, a lot of things you unlocked by getting a higher level. Survival mode was a good addition.

The main reason though, I liked this mode was because I am not that great at multiplayer, where I am really good at Spec. Ops and Survival.

    Multiplayer (****)
Like I said before, I ain't great at multiplayer, but I can still enjoy it. Which is why I like the gun levels. To get gun skins in the other games, it was head shots.... I never aimed for the head because I would never kill them, so body shots were more realistic. But with the gun levels I can get everything. Attachments, what ever, everything.

One of the new mode is Team Defender, I think that is what it is called... Anyway, it's a new variable of Team Deathmatch, as in Kill Confirmed. I think both of these modes are a good addition because playing the same old TDM gets boring. Now with to other ways to play it, that is good.

    Achievements (****)
The achievements in this game were basically the same as MW2, campaign progress, veteran complete and progress, intel, spec ops etc. Still no multiplayer achievements, which I don't mind really. I got all the achievements in the game, so it's good for me. I don't mind if a game has easy achievements. I mean this games aren't easy, but there not super difficult.

    Graphics & Sound (***)
To me there is never anything special about the CoD music, or sounds in any games. I guess the guns have pretty realistic sounds, but to be honest I really don't care. The graphics are good. Not much else I can say here.

    Summary (****)
Good additions for online play, and spec ops. The game is around a 4 stars to me.

Please, if youre going to rate negatively, at least explain yourself

Modern Warfare 3 is the 8th Call of Duty game, since 2003, and was released November 8, 2011. Now I initially swore of the Call of Duty games after Black Ops, but I gave in and decided what the remnants of Infinity Ward could do with their latest game.

Single Player. The Modern Warfare 3 single is finishing up the story line from Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2, with the typical good guys beat the bad guys. Felt pretty much like a Micheal Bay movie, with each level starring an explosion almost every 5 seconds. Plot was better than that of Modern Warfare 2's, and less plot holes, however not nearly as good or engaging as the story line and campaign of Call of Duty 4. It had its moments, but on normal I was able to beat it in 5 hours, and I have no real interest in even going back to beat it on Veteran, something I did with every Call of Duty up to now. Story I'd give a 4/10, it was meh and it jumped back and forth with no real explanation of anything, however, overall (fun factor, acting, and levels) I'd give it a 6/10.

Spec Ops. Spec Ops has been brought back to Modern Warfare 3, and overall it has stayed the same. You get about 16 or so different missions based off the campaign to go through and try to get stars, same thing as what it was in Modern Warfare 2, nothing has changed. However, they did add a few new things to Spec Ops to spice it up, one being the survival mode, which is pretty much Firefight from Halo, Survival from Left 4 Dead (without the zombies), Horde from Gears of War, or even Zombies from World at War, and Black Ops. They also added in a ranking system for Spec Ops so one can unlock weapons and equipment for the survival mode armory. For the Spec Ops itself, since it is how it was in MW 2, I'd give it a 6/10. Enjoyable, but once you beat those missions, at least for me, I don't care much to go back and replay them. On the other hand for survival, I think it's a brilliant addition, and would give it a 9/10. Overall, Spec Ops on a whole, I'd rate as a 7.5/10

Multiplayer. Now, for the bread and butter of the game, what everyone buys the game for, the multiplayer. Now, what can I say about this...it is pretty much a reskin of Modern Warfare 2. Now some will not think that's bad, others will, I am one of the few that finds this a bad thing. Now I know there are a lot of people who say "If it's not broke, don't fix it", and that's a fine argument, however they can improve it, add polish to it, implement new features, all of which Infinity Ward did not seem to do. There are a few things somewhat new or tweaked in Modern Warfare 3 from the past versions, but nothing game changing. They have weapon ranks now, so you can unlock attachments and camo for your weapon, nothing new considering to do that in Modern Warfare 2, you just had to get kills with the gun using certain attachments (i.e. get 50 kills with the RDS for the Holographic sight).

Another 'new' thing they added was being able to switch between which kill streak you wanted to use (so if you have the UAV, Predator Missile, and Attack Chopper, you could call in the UAV before calling in the others). They also added in new strike packages, which are pretty much either an offensive or defensive kill streak setup. Defensive you can die as many times as you like before you get it, all your kills don't have to be in one life unlike the assault package. This is ok, but it's really nothing new other than sorting out defensive and offensive kill streak rewards.

Maps are just as clustered as ever, and just as small as ever. I know people like small maps, but variety is the spice of life, and they could have added a few bigger maps to the selection than just all small maps clustered with narrow hallways and corridors. There really are no wide spaces in any of the levels, where firefights can break out, it's just fighting building to building through narrow hallways and hoping that the next corridor you go down, there isn't a camper waiting in the dark.

Finally...lag. Each time I enter a game I experience tremendous lag. Ok, maybe not tremendous, but a good bit of lag to the point I am almost a full second behind everyone else. All my games I have had this save for about 3. All my other matches, lag. Couple that with the hit detection issues, and crowded maps, and one has themselves a highly unenjoyable game. Because of the issues and lack of anything new that's important, I'd have to give the multiplayer a 5/10.

I have been a fan of Call of Duty since CoD 4 which I though was immense then World at War came out which I hated, then Modern Warfare 2 was great then black ops came out which wasn't very good.

    Now onto my review.

Considering how I have played all of these, Modern Warfare 3 is the worst Call of Duty to have ever been released.
    Campaign:
The campaign has never been that good on Call of Duty games so can't comment on this really.

    Multiplayer:
CoDs multiplayer has always been flawed in some way but Modern Warfare 3s multplayer is boring.

    Campaign: 7/10
    Multiplayer: 6/10
    Graphics: 7/10

Im not saying that Modern Warfare 3 is the only game to have problems because all games have problems but Infinity Ward just need ti get there act together and start making some better games.

This game has a pretty exciting campaign in it. Most would say the campaign is just a copy and paste of MW2, but I disagree with this. The multiplayer however is a very good example of a copy and paste. I mean sure they made new weapons and features but it looks and feels almost exactly the same as MW2 on multiplayer. I got tired of the multiplayer within 1 month of the release of this game and I have almost all the achievements for this game.

    Achievements 8/10

Most achievements on this game are easy to get if you are good at CoD games and can beat the campaign on Veteran. However the survival mode achievements are annoying to get as well as the special ops ones.

    Multiplayer 2/10

Sorry but to be completely honest quite disappointing multiplayer.. Just a copy & paste for the most part.

    Overall gameplay 6/10

I could rate it higher but if I average this out with the multiplayer it becomes a 6. Just the campaign would be an 8/10.

Okay, lets keep this one short.
This game is fairly good, but it definitely does not match up to Modern Warfare 2 cry

    Multiplayer:
For a start, there's the multiplayer, rather than just searching for a game and finding the one with the best ping for you to join, it takes a different annoying approach in which it scans for games with under 50, then under 60 and then under 70 ping and so on, and when it cant find a game on 50 ping, it trys it on 50 again and then moves on to 60 if its the same case again. So for people who have bad pings like me, sometimes it takes 5 or 10 minutes to get a game. Usually at around 90 ping and It usually only finds me one or two games at the speed angry.

    Campaign:
The campaign for this game, is very bland and boring at the least. It seems they had a hugely exciting campaign from MW2 to follow and it's as if they cracked under the pressure and let the gameplay and storyline throughout the campaign completely go to hell.

    Special Ops:
Now this is where we get to the bit in which MW3 slightly redeems itself. The Special Ops in this game is hugely challenging and entertaining, causing for lots of fun, especially with the new special ops survival mode in which you must fight off waves off enemy soldiers which keep coming at you and get harder to be defeated the longer you survive. Special Ops can also be played online which is a huge advantage when you play survival and on many of the special ops missions which require 2 players. Special Ops, is definitely the best part of this new installment in the Call Of Duty Series.

Let me preface this by saying I've been a pretty hardcore fan of COD since Modern Warfare. That in mind, I have to say this had the weakest start to campaign out of all the COD games since MW. Good news is it has a great finish. I'll leave out the spoilers though. Overall I think it has weaker multiplayer than MW2 or Black Ops, and worse Spec Ops missions. I'm not a big fan of survival either, mostly because I was under the impression it was going to be 4-player, and so far I'm pretty sure it's only 2-player. Modern Warfare 3 has been a pretty big let down for me and I actually regret buying this for full price. Also I am NOT buying Elite. I think it's total bull how they kept out 20 pieces of DLC! Even if 15 of them happen to be camo packs, I think they're just trying to nab as much money as possible when they really don't need it. After all, the box for MW3 says it's "The best-selling franchise in Xbox 360 history."
