Week 1: The Horrors of the Gaming Rut
Hello, everyone. My name is MrTylerGorden. Not really, that is just my gamertag. My parents would not be so naive as to name me that. I consider myself an avid gamer. I play a vast majority of games, from shooters to role playing, from sports to puzzle, from action and adventure to trivia, and so on and so forth. I also consider myself a little bit of a collector, owning over twenty consoles and hundreds of games, much to the dismay of my girlfriend. Due to my vigorous schedule, such as a full-time job, part-time schooling, and all-the-time procrastinating, I have a horrible tendency to not finish my games, with at least have of my games not completed and at least a quarter of my games not even started. I want to play these games for a multitude of reasons: I enjoy games, I want to get more achievements, I wish to continue speedrunning games, I want to create YouTube videos, the works. However, I have recently been lacking the want to interact with the only material objects I hold near and dear to my heart: video games.

This has happened before, unfortunately. The first time happened when I was on a waiting list at my local FX Game Exchange for the Nintendo Wii. When everyone and their mother wanted this console. I desperately wanted the console so bad that I stopped playing games for about two weeks until I finally got one. The horrid that were the games for the Wii are a different tale for a different evening, but I digress. Then, years later, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 were coming out. I pre-ordered both consoles, and extra controller for each, and a couple of games for these with all the money I saved from working at GameStop. That, and the $7.62 I got from trading in about twenty of my games. That rut also lasted a couple of weeks. Then, Christmas was right around the corner, and so was Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U. This is, without a doubt, my second favorite franchise of all time. No chance in hell I would miss this. That rut lasted a week or two. I think I am sensing a pattern here...

This rut, however, is a little different. A new console will not come out until around Spring of 2017 with the Nintendo NX (which I am still extremely skeptical about because Nintendo has a knack for disappointment these days). The next games I want are Pokemon Sun and Moon, and those do not release here in the States until November 2016. Nothing is on the horizon. I have nothing to look forward to. Just my current games now. I should mention that I do not have completely garbage games. I own Fallout 4 and have yet to even start the game up. The same goes for Rise of the Tomb Raider. And Halo 5: Guardians. I have only played two matches of Overwatch. I only played APB: Reloaded for an hour two (Note to self: One of these games does not belong). Have I simply outgrown games? Have video games bored me to the point where I am no longer interested? I like to compare being in a gaming rut to a rut in a relationship in that you want the partnership to continue, but you are having troubles finding that spark. That will. That joy that brought the two of you together in the first place. Video games have always, and always will be, an integral part of my life. However, maybe I should take a break from...

...What's this?...

...My copy of Just Cause 3 that I ordered four months ago but got lost in transit. The game that I have been wanting for quite a while now...I enjoyed the second so much, despite never beating it...

...Yeah forget all I just said. The gaming rut is over.
