i have been holding out on my inevitable preorder largely because of their underhanded actions, but this would help me forget that.

/\ EA Dropped the online pass because the executives that started the program "resigned" this past year. The new bosses don't want to deal with the PR headache.

DRM is good for the future, apparently. As the console moves more digital, it'll resurface, I'm sure. For now, it's about money, so this is the right move.

i agree with van uden. EA knew the DRM would eliminate the need for the pass, so they made the announcement early to look soak up the good PR.

And let us all make sure to notice that any "family plan" and sharing of digital titles is now dead, discs won't be used as download keys for titles anymore.

That sharp backpedal from digital focus is exactly why this is so grating.

I wish they gave options of either offline play or online play. My criticism of the 24-check in was it would brick your console. So dumb.

A compromise would be nice. Opt-in to the DRM and check-in, get access to all these features. Now the X1 and PS4 are even: incremental upgrades of the previous gen.

i wouldnt have minded the DRM if they had just come out and said this is what we are trying to do and this is why. instead they tried to cover it up with doublespeak.

I disagree, actually. While I don't like some of the beckpedaling, I feel the One offers much more potential for games with Kinect 2.0 and all their servers and whatnot.

And, if they can remove these, surely they can reimplement them if there's demand? We'll just have to see how it goes.

The new system is still going to be amazing and it's going to have some awesome games. Most people are looking at these features from a completely selfish point of view.

The industry gets competition back I was tired at looking at those embarrassing pre order numbers.

And it's cool that M$ is listening and all, but if I'm being selfish; I would have rather had to 24h check in if it meant that I wouldn't ever have to use the disc again.

I've always felt that companies who are so worried about their PR campaigns know that they have an inferior product. At least that's what I learned getting my degree.

...and I really don't care that the PS4 is coming with DanceDance Revolution 5 either. Specs won't matter for years.

Being completely selfish, I'm happy my only reservation has been lifted. There was just enough "rah rah love it or leave it" to be annoying too and that hurt feeling like

a "Micro$oft guy". PS4 was never on my want list through it all, but part of me felt like I wasn't wanted on the Juan either.

Not thrilled they scrapped so much, but I never saw sense in "You own the disc, but you cant play it".

why didn't they just include an offline mode, whereby you need the disc in order to play the game? they could even limit the amount of times you switch to offline mode,

similar to how they limit the number of license transfers you can do now.
