Contrary to what the solution above says, you can keep shooting after the combine get there and only take minimal damage. Afterwards you can either reload or just kill yourself. That said, the most important part of shooting is lining up your shot. Don't make the mistake I made and shoot from far away. It is much easier to shoot close up, as shown in this video.
