This pretty much should happen on its own while playing through the campaign. Just keep an eye open for flak jackets and helmets. There are several hidden, but most are more or less in the open. If you have 100 armor when you come across one, make a mental note of where it is and come back to it after taking any damage.

Finding 50 shouldn't be a problem at all.
