Your first gadget will be the disassembler. You'll find it in the storage room (use the "teleporter" in your cousin's lab). Simply climb on the big containers (get near the one on the left or right of the disassembler and press X), then jump to the platform in the center of the room where the gadget is. Use it to disassemble things in the storage room before continuing.

To get out of the room, climb on the container that is dropped from the disassembled cable (after you get the gadget) and climb to the upper balcony to take the ladder and use the teleporter.
