You need to play a game with 2-4 controllers/players locally on one console. (You can still be connected to the internet.)

If you play with several controllers alone, the computer will take over your players if you haven't moved them in about 45 seconds. Just pause the game (Start) Press Start on your other controller(s) to bring them back in, and you will still manage to finish the game with several players.
