First off, you CAN put the difficulty on EASY. It seems that's a mistranslation - anywhere the achievements in this game say "higher than X difficulty" it actually means "X difficulty OR HIGHER". I have gotten all four of the use x weapon only achievements, and I got them all on Xbox 360 mode on Easy with lives to 5 and bombs to 7, starting on 1-1.

There is one other major thing to note. If you are going for any weapon other than vulcan, you WILL start the game with the vulcan weapon (and anytime you lose all your lives you will continue with the vulcan). This is OK. I believe it is simply looking that you are only picking up weapon pick ups of the same color. It doesn't care what you shoot with, as long as you have not picked up any weapon pick ups other than the color you're going for. That being said, I wouldn't chance sticking with the level 1 vulcan and trying to dodge power ups for the full game. The achievement will pop once you have killed the diamond boss at the end of 1-7 before / during the results tally.

OK, now that that's out of the way, tips on how to get these guys. Unlearn how you have learned to play this game. You're not going for high score; you're not going for a 1 credit clear; you're not playing fair. You're going to play by different rules. The rules are simple - keep the screen clear of power ups.

You can use your fire button to manage the power ups on the screen. If you stop firing, the power up nearest you (be it missile or gun) will stop changing color and float toward you. If you start firing again before you pick it up, it will return to the center of the screen and begin rotating and changing color again. Use this knowledge paired with the massive number of bombs that you have to keep the screen clear of power ups. Wait for a power up to turn your color, fire a bomb, stop firing while the bomb is doing its damage and fly toward your power up and then retreat. With a little practice you can get 2, 3 or even 4 power ups, all the color you want in rapid succession in 1 or maybe 2 bombs timing.

The other rule is to train yourself to stay out of the bottom left of the screen. When you die, your new ship will fly in about 1/3rd from the left of the screen and about 1/4th of the way up. When you die, your ship will spawn 2 - 4 power ups that will slowly float towards the center of the screen. If you die in the lower left, chances are that your newly spawned ship will pick up one or more of the newly spawned power ups and you will have no control over what color they are. If you pick up one that's not your color, you will not get the achievement and will have to restart.

The first couple of levels are fairly simple, but after about halfway through level 3 (the bridge) you will begin just getting in a habit of spamming bombs, picking up power ups and then suiciding once you've run out of bombs to start the process over. It's not hard, you just have to be paying attention and focused to be sure you don't pick up any stray power ups.

One other thing; power ups will start in the center of the screen but they will slowly work their way out to the edges and can even come up behind you once you think they've gone off the edge of the screen. This is why you use the fire button to manage them and keep them in the center until you're sure you can get them when they're the color you want.

Finally, the purple guns are both TERRIBLE and expect killing to bosses to take at least 1.5 times as long with either the proton or plasma weapons as it does with either the vulcan or laser.

Each run will take between 35 and 50 minutes so put on some music or something and be sure you're able to focus. There's nothing worse than dying in the lower left corner on the approach to the final boss and your new ship flying over a mis-colored power up and having to restart… that happened to me… twice. >_<

Hope this guide helps someone, and per usual, please leave feedback and questions before leaving me negative votes!
