Presents are scattered throughout the levels and are always in glittered boxes. You need to be a certain size to see and pick up presents. If you see one, but can't roll it up, grow your katamari a little more and try again. You may have to get to the point where the screen changes zoom before you are able to get it. This should come naturally during the campaign.
