You are better off earning this achievement while going for the Grandmaster achievement

Battle vs. Chess Grandmaster The Grandmaster achievement in Battle vs. Chess worth 240 pointsReach an online rating of 1200


However if you just want this achievement, you should just make it such that your boosting partner has a higher rating than you by losing a game and then beat him/her. This is of course assuming that your ratings are the same or similar.

You can check your rating on the online leaderboards.

I believe this achievement can only be earned in Ranked matches which you should use anyway for all the online achievements.

If you are only just playing the online for the first time. It will take a few hours for your rank to be established on the leaderboards and the achievement WON'T pop during this time. At least that's how it happened for me and my boosting partner.
