Shoot any moving object with a triangle HUD marker; that's a Zylon Fighter. Repeat x49. You'll kill many hundred Zylon Fighters throughout the game; I got this sometime in the Sector 2A-C series.

Best tips are to use Attack Mode and the heat-seaking rockets, or Turret Mode and the guns.
