Below is a the complete list of guns needed for this achievement with locations in the game where they are easily picked up and a kill can be made. They're in an order you're most likely to come across them.
Colt M1917l (Police Revolver) - Patrol Desk: Armed and Dangerous Phelps is equipped with this as a Patrol Officer, the only opportunity to use it is during the bank shoot out in Armed and Dangerous. You have to drop the shotgun (LB) to equip the sidearm. The handguns dropped by two of the robbers are snub versions of the same gun. Walking over them will give you ammo.
Star Model P (.45) - Phelps' primary sidearm as detective
Ithaca 37 (Pump Action Shotgun) - Patrol Desk: Armed and Dangerous (Phelps starts with it) - Traffic Street Crime: Hotel Bandits (after car chase to parking garage) - Traffic Street Crime: Gangfight - Homicide Street Crime: Bank Job - Homicide Street Crime: Bowling Alley Robbery - Vice Desk: The Black Caesar (Finkelstein shootout) - Arson Desk: A Polite Invitation (Hall of Records shootout) - Arson Desk: A Polite Invitation (Leland Monroe’s Mansion shootout) - Arson Desk: A Different Kind of War (sewers during finale)
M1 Garand - Traffic Desk: The Fallen Idol (Movie Set shootout, a few goons will have them) - Traffic Street Crime: Death From Above (single shooter on lower roof) - Arson Desk: A Different Kind of War (in the sewer during finale)
M1A1 Thompson (Tommy Gun) - Traffic Street Crime: Death From Above (two on the high roof) - Traffic Street Crime: Gangfight - Homicide Street Crime: Bank Job - Vice Desk: The Black Caesar (Finkelstein shootout) - Arson Desk: A Polite Invitation (Hall of Records shootout) - Arson Desk: A Polite Invitation (Leland Monroe’s Mansion shootout) - Arson Desk: A Different Kind of War (sewers during finale)
M1 Thompson (Round Drum) - Vice Desk: Manifest Destiny (Hollywood Post Office shootout) - Vice Desk: Manifest Destiny (Meeting Place shootout)
Colt .45 (Jack Kelso's primary sidearm) - Arson Desk: A Polite Invitation (Hall of Records shootout) - Arson Desk: A Polite Invitation (Leland Monroe’s Mansion shootout) - Arson Desk: A Different Kind of War (in sewers at finale)
Browning Automatic Rifle M1918A1 (BAR) - Traffic Street Crime: Army Surplus (on ground near start) - Arson Desk: A Different Kind of War (sewers during finale) You'll find the BAR for the first time in campaign after climbing the ladder out of the water, there will be a storeroom to your right guarded by some goons. - Arson Street Crime, Cafe Holdup (one of four goons has it, usually on left)
M2 Flamethrower - Arson Desk: A Different Kind of War (in sewers, second weapon storage) The only location of this weapon in the game. The storeroom is at the end of a long corridor guarded by goons. You'll come to this after descending a set of stairs.

*I've gotten a few inquiries about where I got the proper names of the weapons, well there is a great wiki for that: the Internet Movie Firearms Database. Just search the movie or video game you want and it'll give you tons of info on the weapons real or fictional. |

I haven't used Splicegraph's walkthrough myself, but it's certainly extensive. If you are just trying to get this achievement quickly, then by all means use his guide.
However, if you haven't played the game yet, or have to do redo the storymode because of, for instance, the Shamus To The Stars achievement, I would recommend the following solution:
Don't worry about this achievement. just play through the game, and whenever you're in a shooting segment, pick up any gun you find and kill at least one enemy with it before taking another gun.
Don't forget however, that in the Patrol Desk 'Armed and Dangerous' case, you'll get a shotgun at the start of this segment - you have to drop it and use your handgun for at least one kill, since the gun you use in this desk is the only one of it's kind in the game, and you lose it permanently after completing the desk. The shotgun can be found in many other cases.
Just pick up any gun you find in a shooting segment (they're all better than whatever you have equipped anyway) and use it for at least one kill, drop the shotgun in the 'Armed and Dangerous' case, and you'll get the achievement when you perform your first kill with the flamethrower. |

| As the previous comments said, but also you don't need to complete the last case you need. For example, say you need the revolver from Armed and Dangerous and you need the flamethrower from the last case. If you leave the case right after you get the kill, it WILL NOT save. So in this situation, you would need to get the kill with the revolver and complete the case, then get the kill with flamethrower, and you should get your achievement. |
