The firetruck IS a good way, but I think I've found a better way.

It involves two of the hidden cars as they are worth MUCH more than the firetruck (According to the social club) and, more importantly, the are MUCH quicker to destroy.

The "Phantom Corsair" can be found towards the East edge of the Map, just West of the River at the corner of Traction and 3rd, in the petrol station.

The "Duesenberg Walker Coupe" can be found just off Santa Monica Boulevard. Head East slightly from the corner of Santa Monica and Vine and go through the archway into a carpark.

Both hidden vehicles are found by going into the blue garages.

I did the case "The Drivers Seat" and basically smashed up one of each car (until its on fire, by doing head on collisions only at full speed) between each case section. This provides an autosave after every couple of cars in case you screw up and die (be sure to jump out of the car after each collision, if its not on fire jump back in and crash again).

These cars are worth over $20000 each, according to the http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/ so even if its not completely destroyed you are going to get a hefty bill.
EDIT:
Some TA'ers have posted that they are getting $7k-10k per car rather than its full value. This means you cant just write off 3 or 4 of them and have enough but doing one of each car between case saves as described below should still earn you enough. Each pair of cars should give $14k-$20k using the values other members have found. This means 4 pairs of cars should be enough. Always worth going for more though.

Fast travel to each cars location, the money you'd get smashing things up along the way is negligible. I found, generally, it took 3 full speed head on collisions to destroy each car.

By simply following
a) smash up both cars
b) do next case section until it saves
and repeating until the case was solved I easily got the damage needed (i finished on ~$85000)

The case is quite a short one as you only need a few clues (receipt and drivers licence at railtrack, matches at house), you only need to interview Morgan (lie-receipt, doubt).

Hope it helps wink

EDIT: Thanks for the comments guys, especially those with total damage and amount of cars to help work out a more realistic value for each car

Essentially, you have to cause as much mayhem as you can during a single case and rack up $47,000 in damages.

Things to keep in mind are that vehicle damage will net you the most bang for your buck. I've noticed that streetlights, fire hydrants, etc will net you between $50-100 - so try and total other cars to rack up the most damages. Also, firetrucks - like the one parked outside the fire house adjacent to the Hollywood police station - will net you $12,000 in damages a pop.

OG T Unit brought up a good point that you should make sure to do this after making detective. Any damage accumulated in the initial beat cop missions will not count towards this achievement.

To keep track of how much damage you've racked up in a given case, first make sure to save by exiting a crime scene during investigation or entering/exiting the police station. You should see the saving icon flit up on the screen. Once it's gone, exit to the main menu and choose the option to manually sync up with the Rockstar Social Club (assuming you've signed up first). Once synched, visit the Social Club's Case Tracker page to see how much damage you've racked up on your current mission (http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/games/lan/casetracker.ht...).

Once you've hit $47,000, feel free to finish the case and you should see your achievement pop!

The achievement should take about 5-10 mins with this method. Just follow the video and the achivement is yours...

In short:
- Travel to the Phantom Corsair Garage (as shown in video)
- Crash the Corsair nearby until it's engine is on fire.
- The Corsair will respawn at the garage
- Repeat 6 times (you should rack up $8,000 per corsair.

This should take much less time than any other method. The achievemnt pops on completing the case.

Video has more details and exact locations

EDIT - Additional Info (credit - PXAbstraction)
"One little addition to this otherwise fine advice: When I tried this method, the Corsair did NOT respawn unless I was far enough away from the garage when I wrecked the one I was driving. So if you destroy one and find the garage empty when you go back, have your partner drive you a few blocks away in another car and return. It will be there then."

Best and quickest way (in my opinion)
First go to the Hollywood Police Station, in the parking lot there is a Firetruck. Get in the firetruck and leave the parking lot in the direction it is facing. As soon as you leave the parking lot turn right and drive on the side of the road destroying everything in your way (lamp posts, hydrants, benches, etc.) drive until the truck stops working (drive straight and don't turn as there are no indestructible objects in your path) . After that get into any car (the faster the better) and drive back to the police station ( drive on the sidewalk hitting as many pedestrians as you can as it helps a little). After getting back to the station just repeat the process about 5 - 6 times and it should be enough or more to be safe.
I used that method 4 - 5 times + some extras as I was getting on wit the mission and it racked up a total of $59,652 penalties
Hope it helps

The best way i found was to kill two birds with one stone. As soon as you start a case and exit the police building just go collectible hunting. I did it with the golden reels. I found 13 and because of all the cars I totaled, my vehicle damage alone was at $59,000. Just go all out and run head on into as many cars as possible. Secondly, since i had to keep jumping into new cars constantly i unlocked about 5 cars as well.

Jack and Geoff from rooster teeth show you how to get this achievement. To make this achievement go faster get some of the higher value cars and crash them into each other head on. After you think you have made enough progress make sure you check by going to http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/games/lan/casetracker.ht... after you verify you have done $45,000 in damage go back and finish the case for the achievement!

This is a fun one. It's the closest you will get to a GTA style rampage. Basically just grab a car and run stuff over. Benches, streetlights, hot dog vendors, and newstands are all fair game. Hitting people is fair game as well. The pedestrians do a really good job of getting out of the way and actually killing one is somewhat challenging. Don't go too overboard going after people because after you kill too many, the case will reload to a checkpoint, I think (never had this problem). Once your car breaks down, grab another one and rinse and repeat. I did this on one of the earlier missions for the traffic desk and just caused as much damage while driving to the locations. The case I did it on was the hit and run for the traffic desk. The game should auto save when you show up at the suspect's apartment to make the arrest. I finished the case, came up short and just reloaded and caused more damage. It will pop at the end of a case when it gives you your grade. Not too hard, just a little time consuming.

Just to add to the above solutions, if you end up getting all the way to the end case screen and end up being short of $47000 (like me) exit to the dashboard and load game back up. Go to resume and pick the saved case you just exited and it should place you back to the last scene. From there just rack up a few more destroyed vehicles and finish the case to make up for how short you were in damages.

This just saves you having to repeat whole cases if you stuff up and are a couple grand short and saves the effort of having to keep checking your progress on the social club pages.

So, here is the easiest and shortest way I found to do this, really based on a combination of all the ideas above, plus one of my own:

1. Go to a case that you have finished and are on (Replay) with. Usually this means you're down to the final interview. I chose the Gas Man. Instead of going into the building, head to the street and take a car from someone. If you don't, your partner can't drive.

2. Head to the Corsair (3rd and Traction) in the back of the gas station

3. Take a sharp right onto the street, build up a head of steam, and find something big to hit head on.

4. Once the car is demolished, take another car and head back to the gas station (as long as you didn't make any turns, it should be a straight shot).

5. The Corsair has respawned. So, simply rinse and repeat. I found no exact way of measuring damage, so I smashed this car up 5 times and racked up $78,000 in damages.

6. Go back, do your final interviews. You have to finish the case correctly (i.e. in the Gas Man if you choose to charge Varley, you'll get a 1 star, and no achievement. If you charge Ryan, you'll get a 3 star and the achievement pops).

Two pieces of advice;

1. Cause as many full speed, head-on collisions as humanly possible.

2. when you THINK you have enough racked up damage? Keep going.

The reasons being...

1. City damage builds much more slowly than car damage, and hitting too many people will apparently (I've been told, I've never tried it) restart your mission. Car damage is the fastest way to rack up fines, and a high-speed head on collision is the fastest way to do it. If you get your speed high enough I've seen it take off bumpers, hoods, break windows, and occasionally even light the other car on fire with one hit. Whats better is, it usually only takes 2-3 of these to incapacitate your OWN car, which is just a little extra destruction.

2. I've attempted this achievement twice. Both times I spent at least a good twenty minutes doing nothing but destroying shit; first time: approximately 24,000 dollars. Second time: 4,5320. Yes.... I was THAT close. I ended up throwing a temper tantrum wishing I'd just gone 5 minutes more. So if you think you should be done... keep going. You don't wanna waste that kinda time getting a one star rating on a case for nothing.

Nice and easy, just grab hold of a good 30 cars, and total them, smashing other cars at the same time netted me a good $60,000.

Time consuming, but if you're looking for the GTA style fun of things, I definitely recommend,.

There is not real need to waste your time looking for expensive cars. Ram every car head on at full speed to total them to and from every location. Keep track of where you are in the case.

Before the end of the case, sync up to Rockstar, and go to the website, and check the total damage. If you have yet to hit the $47,000 mark, just keep doling out damage until you reach it, then finish the case.

Happy mayhem:)

I was surprised how quickly i did this, all you need is about 6 hidden cars or id recommend using 3 cars twice, crash them into other cars till they don't work or are on fire, to make sure you are on track to get the achievement, get to a save point and go on your computer and use rockstar social and check case tracker and the mission you're using, comes in really handy. You need to finish the mission to get the achievement, so i recommend using a traffic case, nice and short doesn't take long to finish.

Good luck folks

I got the achievement first time by doing the following.. I loaded the case "Black Caesar" and after interviewing Fleetwod Morgan got into the car and decided to take a scenic tour of L.A by driving on the pavements and smashing as many cars as I could when coming up to a junction. When the car was totalled, I would just commandeer another one from a random driver in the street.. Everything was fair game, lamp posts, traffic lights, mail boxes, benches, hot dog stands, parked cars and pedestrians, too! I took a very, very long route around the city on the footpath and after about 20 mins decided to go interview Ottie and carry on with the case.. Hope this helps, and have FUN getting it!
