Buying one upgrade ring basically means to buy all the upgrades on one of the circles/rings in the upgrade menu. The first is obviously and by far the easiest one to buy out, its the smallest and will only require 6000 salvage.

you will most likely get this as you progress through campaign but will defiantly be quicker if you spam infestation. waves 18/ 20+ can net you 1000 in 2-3 plays, but can be long and difficult so its probably better to play with friends who can offer support.

Especially desperate people can buy the autopsy upgrade (extra salvage per kill- tier 2) but considering you only need 6000 you might as well keep the salvage because ultimately it will set you back 1000.
