To get a gold medal you need to be in the top percentile of players in regards to EXP.
I am not sure exactly where the cut off line is, and it has been noted that these achievements may be glitchy, but I know you need to finish AT LEAST in the top 20%.
Please note that your chip stack does not affect this achievement, only EXP, so you can cater your play style accordingly.
I got this achievement with around 16k EXP and there were around 4,400 players. The top player had around 21k EXP.
A few tips for earning EXP:
1. Take advantage of bonus EXP. Some matches give bonuses for wearing a costume earned from single player or having a male or female avatar. If you're really struggling with this you might try making a female avatar for the bonus EXP as most other players are male. Also, once you play in one round of Texas Heat, the following round you will receive a %20 EXP boost.
2. Don't bust out! This will cause you to move down a table, but more importantly it wastes time that you could be earning XP! Also if you bust out at the single diamond table you will be penalized by getting no EP for a few hands. Play conservative and try to get big pots when you know you're ahead.
3. If you know you are going to win go all in. You will receive 250 XP for going 'All in to Win' , as well as others like 'Schooled' for 125 XP, 'Showdown Win' for 225 XP, and if you knock another player out with your All In you will also net a 'Takedown' for another 250 XP.
4. Exploit the computer AI players. You know they are AI because they just have a single name like Bo or Steve. Try to get in a room with AI if possible. They act a lot faster than a room full of players and they are predictable. They often shove no matter what they are holding so don't try to bluff them, just wait for your good hand and use your all in move! In the meantime hopefully they will stay in against eachother and see it to the river, netting you 300 XP for a 'Smart Fold'. If you have the chip stack to see it to the river and fold the losing hand for this bonus then by all means do so, but don't stretch yourself out.
That's about it, you will need some luck and good cards but try for Smart Folds, Takedowns, and All in to Wins and you should eventually hit your mark.
Also in the last 2 minutes of a session you will be 'locked in' at your current table so it is a good time to shove your chips if you can stand losing them for a chance at getting the 'All in to Win' bonus.
It may also be worth trying for a Life Preserver in case you do bust out you can just buy back in and continue earning XP. I think they are obtained by finishing in the top 3 at either the single or double diamond tables.
Good luck! |

AI players move much faster and are much easier to bluff out of a pot, which provides for more hands and a better chance at having a winning streak
Changing your NAT type from 'open' to 'closed' increases your chances of your connection crapping out when trying to play with others and landing you at a table with all AI players while still keeping you online. It's not guaranteed to work, though - just increases the chances you'll have less human-controlled slowpokes to deal with
Just don't forget to change your NAT type back to 'open' when you're done! |
