I did this with Alberto Contador, of Saxo Bank, probably the best rider in the game. Winning the Tour with him is not difficult, you can beast the mountain stages easily, so the yellow jersey and polka dot one should come together. To win the mountain stages, just max out your speed without letting the red bar lose any colour. If you keep up this constant pace, you should eventually drop every other rider, even the Schlecks and Cadil Evans.

The key to the acheivement is the green. Sprinter Oscar Friere is normally your number one threat. There are three things I did to ensure I got the sprint jersey:

1. Win every mountain stage. Important, because despite sprinters long being left in the dust, it still awards green jersey points, and lots of them.

2. On flat stages, try and win intermediate sprints by attacking 3-4km out. Often, no other sprinter will follow you, and if you time attacks correctly you should be able to escape the peleton long enough to claim valuable points.

3. If you want to conserve energy and don't attack, send low-ranking team mates to attack on stages. I found it difficult to maintain leads when I attacked, but often team mates who were no threat on the general classification could build and maintain long leads, and were often joined by other non-threatening riders. This way, breakaways eat up valuable green jersey points in the intermediate spints that the likes of Oscar Friere can't win, reducing the number of points you inevitably need to catch up once the race hits the mountains. Just accept that sprinters will dominate the stage finishes on most flat stages, and tally up lots of points as a result.
