This achievement is easier if you wait until you unlock the rainbow fertiliser from Igor, since you don't have to worry about colours then. Most smaller plants (i.e. not trees and bushses) get the full growth bonus from simply being fertilised 3 times as soon as they are planted, so getting 5 is not hard. (Things like Chilli, buttercups, daisies etc)
You can see which plants you have master grower for in your journal, to help you keep track of this.
