To make this a bit easier, I would highly recommend completing the campaign on easy first. Doing this will unlock arguably the best plane in the game - the PAK-FA. This comes in two variants, air superiority (pretty pointless) and multirole (choose this one!).

The PAK-FA
This plane excels in all areas, from armour to agility. The primary reason for using this aircraft is the loadout. It carries ten Swarm missiles that are fired in pairs, two enemies can be fired upon simultaneously within a range of around 10km. Many enemies will be taken down with one salvo. The PAK-FA also carries two Eagle air to air missiles and four WYRM missiles. These last two weapons will make most missions very easy.

Avoiding radar
The radar net is far stricter on hard difficulty. I tried so many times to follow rivers and valleys with little success. I found the best thing to do was to fly directly to the objective marker skimming the ground. You can not crash into trees, so get as low as you can and follow the contours of the land as closely as possible.

General tactics
The first 14 or so missions are tactically similar. WYRM missiles will lock onto targets upto 20km away, one missile per target although buildings and ships may need two or three. Take them out before you get within 10km and they won't even get a shot on you. As for enemy planes, most can be taken out with one Eagle or a pair of Swarm missiles. Eagles can be used upto 20km away, but switch to Swarms for anything within 10km.

The final mission
Starts off really easy, you shouldn't have any trouble protecting your allies on the ground by picking of enemies before they become a problem. Unfortunately, it suddenly becomes very difficult for the second half of the mission. The best advice I can give is to stay low, use countermeasures as much as you can and focus on taking out the target objective before you die. You get a checkpoint once each objective is complete, so you'll restart from there with full health.
