The first attempt I was able to use the trumpet cannon was at Tullingham Tower in the Fall/Autumn zone. The trumpet cannon, for me, was unlocked during the Summer zone, but was unable to use it until the next zone.
The enemies have long swords and wear those roman helmets (the ones that have the mohawks embedded in them) can be shot by the trumpet cannon, and immediately unlocks after your first kill shot!
To equip the trumpet cannon, during the upgrade sequence of the battle, you will select the cannon option and equip it by locating the trumpet in the third row, second column and pretty much looks like a trumpet.
