Quite easily obtainable in the very first level "Underground cemetary":
The key to a gold rating is to get to the finish as fast as possible and collecting as many coins as possible.
The focus should lie on speed. If there are coins on your way grab them, if they're aside somewhere and only would slow down your progress, then ignore them.
Avoid losing your combo at all cost!!
If you do, use the undo function to set you back to a moment when you still had your combo and the timer will be reset!
If you just started the game for the very first time and are having trouble getting the gold price at first, then try to continue into the second or third chapter first and start another try on the first chapter later on via your mobile at the stray sheep (pick 'awards' from the menu - it's the Chapter-select-feature in Catherine).
You'll have an easier time with a bit more practise in later chapters.
