The game keeps track of this for you under Pilot Profile on the main menu. After going to your Pilot Profile you will see "Inverted Time" in the lower right hand corner.

Staying upside down for an extended amount of time won't be too difficult. You will only need the 4 arrow keys on your keyboard to stay aloft once upside down.

What you will have to do once upside down is keep tapping the up arrow key about once every second while balancing the wings with the left and right arrow keys when needed

You will have to keep tapping the up arrow because once upside down your plane is going to want to fall out of the sky.
Once you understand this, it makes it alot easier.

You should get the rhythm down pretty quick. The controls not being inverted while upside down made it a little more natural for a noob like me.

The plane that I found worked best for this was the P-51 (paid dlc). I tried all of the other planes, but after being upside down for more than a few seconds I would have to start decreasing my altitude or the plane would stall.

The nice part about doing this with the P-51 is that you don't have to keep pointing the plane level to avoid a nose dive. Once you have the plane upside down increase the throttle to 100% and increase the trim to 100% down (which is up when you're upside down). The plane should pretty well start flying itself now upside down while slowly gaining altitude. If it climbs too quickly so that the engine might stall just decrease the trim a couple of notches. Every minute or two you'll probably have to adjust the turn of the plane a bit or it'll flip itself back over. It'll require very little attention to keep it flying so go ahead and do something else as long as you can keep an eye on it. 1 hour later and the achievement is yours.

Assuming you have the plane slowly climbing you'll also probably reach 32000ft before the hour is up giving you the 32K achievement if you haven't already earned it and giving you an easy chance at the Mach 1 achievement.

Get the free red tails P-51 this will make this much easier if your doing this without paid DLC, I inverted and set it up so i slowly gained altitude using an xbox controller i had to now and again just level out the plane, i got to about 28k when this popped. Good luck!
