You can do this with one of free planes (Stearman is better for this).

Teleport to top of Hawaii main island upper mountain when observatory is (Mauna Kea) and try to land on one of smaller hills next to observatory. Set throttle to zero, turn off engine then turn it on again while throttle still at 0 and you will start driving back.
if you are lucky enough, drive onto some bump you can be kicked up enough so game will mark this as landing backwards.

I got mine chieevo this way on Stearman. Credits for method goes to 'XELOS vehicles' from x360a.

The final Maule landing challenge has you landing on a small concrete block at the observatory. You have a 60 kt wind to contend with.

Head past the landing zone and turn into the headwind with full throttle and full flaps. This will give you about 80 kt airspeed with 20 kt groundspeed because of the headwind.

Work your way towards the landing zone correcting for the gusts of wind which will throw your Maule around. When you get past the landing zone reduce your throttle slowly. When your airspeed drops below 60 kt keep the throttle at that point. You will now slowly head backwards towards the landing zone. While you are heading backwards slowly reduce your altitude, you should then touch down on the landing pad moving backwards and the achievement will unlock.

I read all the guides and tried them. Actually I didn't try the challenge one( it wasn't unlocked for me yet), but that gave me an idea.
I set the weather to stormy and used the Stearman. I set it to take off at the biggest airstrip on Hawaii. As soon as I spawned I hit the brakes (X) and got the achievement. If you put the weather on stormy it says there are high winds. I guess the wind blew me just enough to move the plane backwards. When I stopped it registered as a landing. Go figure. But it did get me 50GS. It should for you too.

I got this achievement by doing barely anything at all.

In free flight mode, i selected "Upper Pauulio Airstrip" on the map, and when the game loaded..The Achievement popped up before i started the engine. I used the Steerman plane.
