There are three zones for the game on three islands; yellow, green and red zone. Each zone is then split into further areas with each area containing one or two lairs of infected. Upon entering these lairs you will have to complete certain objectives to destroy it.
Consulting a guide isn't necessary, as the in-game map provides a rough location for you to find your collectibles. Open the map screen with start and scroll across to collectibles. Using LB and RB you can scroll between collectibles; blackboxes, field ops and lairs, and the map will ping with an approximate location of the selected collectible.
Set a way-point with A and proceed to the location. Once close, lairs will pop-up on your HUD
Also note that lairs are swarming with infected and provide great opportunities to obtain your All Together Now, CannonBall, You're the Bomb and Two for the Price of One achievements, once you have the relevant powers available.
