The game automatically puts you on hard after you beat normal with no option to change it back to a lower difficulty. So you must prepare for hard mode on your first playthrough on nomal. One good thing is you carry all items skills, orbs, health upgrades etc., with you. Also you should be good at all of Dante's skills and know all enemy weakness and best weapons to use on them, which will be key to beating this difficulty on hard mode. On hard you start off fighting enemies' that you didnt see until late in the game on normal. Also enemies' do more damage and are harder to kill. Always be ready to go into devil trigger to gain the extra damage boost, and health regeneration. Try not to loose to much health where you need to use a vitality star, because they cost 4300 orbs now. Other items cost way more than on normal . For example, devil stars on normal 550 orbs, on hard 2700 orbs. I recommend not buying items on hard mode, unless absolutely necessary. Between the ones you carried over, and the ones you will be finding again, should be plenty. Spend those hard earned orbs on skills, blue and purple orbs to raise vitality, and devil trigger. These do not raise in cost between difficulties like other items. Another important thing to keep in mind is conserving items is always good, but don't worry too much about using them, with the exception of vitality stars. Only use vitality stars late in game during the boss battles if your having trouble. After you beat hard mode you will have the option to play on normal again as many times as you want, to stock up on items to get prepared for DMD. Make sure if you start normal again to stock up on items for DMD that you buy as many as possible early. Because you can't buy them anymore after you have a certain amount, but if you find them you can keep stocking up. You will need all the items you can get for DMD! Hope all this helps, and please let me know if i should add anything else.
