This is for your first battle with Nelo Angelo on Mission 4.
Your guns will be of little use here, so focus solely on melee.
Dodge his attacks by jumping away from him whenever he raises his sword or teleports. His Dark Meteor attack can be easily dodged by jumping at the right time or rolling out of the way. After the final hit of any combo you hit him with, he will block the next attack (if facing you) or teleport (if hit in the back). Back off when he blocks. Further hits will prompt him to counter.
When fighting Nelo Angelo, wait for him to finish his attack and start his recovery/taunt before attacking. Most of his moves can be parried with Alastor, but will put you at risk of being hit by his subsequent attacks.
Once he's lost 1/3 of his health bar, he'll teleport to the next area. When you pursue, be careful not to be anywhere near him when you climb up. He has a tendancy to use his sweeper attack when you do, and you'll have no chance to dodge it at close range. His tactics are otherwise unchanged.
There is an exploit for his AI that makes him extremely predictable. If you jump away from him in mid-combo while he is facing you, Nelo Angelo will *always* retaliate with a Dark Meteor. If you have DT active with Alastor, you can run up to him before he fires it and start another combo.
There is an additional exploit involving Dante's sword attack animation. If you wiggle the left stick back and forth quickly after the first two or four hits, Dante will speed up his recovery animation and immediately put his sword away. This will allow you to start another combo immediately.
Two-hit combos can be canceled from Nelo Angelo's front or back, and do not require DT to be active. Four-hit combos can only be canceled from his front, and you must have DT active. Combining this exploit with Nelo Angelo's AI, you can hit him up to 18 times in a row before he will block or teleport. After the 18th hit, he is scripted to block the next hit or teleport immediately. Mastering this technique will make him a pushover in Hard and DMD modes. |

Beating Nelo Angelo in all three battles is relatively straightforward if you learn his moves and how to evade them. His moves are:
Horizontal Slash - Angelo will hold his sword to his back and horizontal to the ground before swinging it. Jump or roll to dodge it.
Vertical Combo - Angelo will hold his sword vertical to the ground and admire it before slashing forward, following up with two more slashes, and depending on when you fight him another downward swing. He homes in on how you dodge, so just stay away while he swings his sword.
Stinger - Angelo will rush you and deliver a thrust just like Dante's Stinger. Jump or roll to dodge it.
Energy Blast - Angelo focuses blue energy into a hand before firing it towards you. Jump or roll with the proper timing to dodge this attack.
Singing Swords - Angelo only uses this on Mission 17. This attack has many forms, multiple blue swords will appear and will be used offensively or defensively. Defensively, Angelo will have the swords rotate around him; you cannot attack him with a melee attack during this time, use the Grenadegun to get rid of them and dodge his attacks. Offensively they will either stay near Angelo before he fires them towards Dante or they will rotate around Dante in different patterns before going in for the kill. Depending on the pattern they can either fire in rapid succession or all at once. Dodging these require excellent timing on your part. |

The first time you fight him is on mission 4. He is pretty simple. Once you beat him the achievement will pop and the mission will be over.
Good thing to know is that there is a invincible star and a blue fragment orb in the area that you fight him. Up in the highest part. |
