(Edit) The Arabic board is up and is by far the easiest ever. Most games end with 1-5 people in the world. It's just a matter of getting the best digram available in the hour and maxing it. 350-500 points should net you the achievement. Also only the top 50 or so people have much more than 85k so the top 250 achievement is easy as well (/Edit).
I got this on the Dutch dictionary. It would not pop even though I was on top of the "Best of the Hour" Leaderboard, even after playing multiple games. Managed to unlock by quitting out of Wordament and reloading from the home screen.
I cannot really give you any tips to unlock other than what's already out there: play late at night/early morning for the language region you're working on. Look for big words.
Per Lijnloos it appears this can unlock hours after you were at the top of the leaderboard.
This and the 250 achievement are server-side unlocks which means that it will not unlock until the game server communicates that you have earned it. As long as you qualify you can exit the game and come back later where it will unlock, according to the developers. More info here: http://wordament.com/2012/04/20/wordament-achievements/
FYI all there is no set "hour". The time is cumulative, so its for being the highest score in the last 60 minutes of real time. Once you see your name at the top of the "best of the hour" leaderboard I'd advise playing one more full game then exiting out and reloading.

You can change the language, minimum letters, set it to points, all that you need. I got 1129 points in a game using this method while my normal highscore was ''only'' 751.
Best shot to get this is in a game where you have a special letter like ''ee'', that gives more points. |

The wording for this achievement is a bit off. The actual requirements for this is to get the best SINGLE score of the hour.
By far the easiest way to do this is to change the puzzle language to Arabic and systematically work through the puzzle trying to get as many words as you can.
To find out where you are on the leaderboard go to:
Leaderboards > Best Of > Then select the drop down box and change it to Best of the Hour.
If you have just got a really high score but it hasn't put it on the leaderboard yet, Don't Worry!! just play or wait through another game and after that the boards should have updated and if you are top you should get your achievement.
Should you not unlock your achievement straight away, just close down the app and load it back up again and if you were 1st of the hour at any point, your achievement should pop.
If you have managed to get your achievement on Windows 8 or Windows Phone, then to get the achievement on the other platform all you have to do is load up the game on the version you haven't got the achievement for yet and it should unlock straight away, without even having to play a game.
EDIT- If you have managed to get high score which meant you were 1st on the iOS version, then you will get the achievement when you log on to the other versions. Credit to Fadi kun.

Not really a solution as much as a time saving tip.
If you're like me and this is the last achievement you need. When you load up the game check the leaderboards first. If the score is high then just come back later.
For me I had a hard time scoring above 300 and some change. So if the score was above that I just shut it down. When I finally did get it I check the leaderboards and found the current high score was only about 340 or so. Then I knew how high of a score I needed. Ended up with 390 and it popped after the next game. |
