I found a trick you can do to get this a lot quicker and easier.

Make sure the game is on easy, monsters do not spawn on peaceful.
If you want, once you have the bones, you can change it to peaceful because you might spend awhile trying to find the wolves.

First what you need to do is to go kill some skeletons. Kill skeletons until you have about 2-5 bones.
The reason you need 2-5 is because the amount of bones you need to give the wolf is random, sometimes they love you after 1 or 2 bones, sometimes 5.

Anyway, once you have your bones, save the game. Once saved, go out and find your wolf. You only need to find 1.

Once you find the wolf, save the game right away. Once saved, feed the wolf the bone until it loves you then quit the game. Restart the game to the last save near the wolf and do it again. Keep doing it until you got the wolf to love you 5 times for an Achievement Unlocked.

Note: Since the amount of bones that the wolf wants is random, there are some times you restart the save that the wolf won't love you, so just reload the save again and keep feeding it.

If you leave a thumbs down, please state why so I can improve on my future solutions.

Silver TiglonIn the tutorial world, there are always two wolves fenced in by the fishing area, along with some other animals. By the wolves is a chest that has 10 bones. You can just tame the two wolves and then save and quit. Then just do the same in two more tutorial worlds, because the number of wolves you tame stacks.

I see that nobody here has mentioned the by far EASIEST way to get this achievement, i guarantee you will have this unlocked in 10 minutes max with my solution.

    1) First click 'New Game' then choose 'Tutorial' (yes this does work as i have just tested it)

    2) complete the first part of the tutorial (basics of minecraft)

    3) when it says you can move onto the next area do so, you will pass a chest with music discs and an enchanted bow and some other things i think, walk past this then you can go left or right, go right.

(You will know if you are in the right place if you see like a farm with lots of animals in cages to your right)

    4) You should see a chest in front of these animal pens, inside are 64 bones, take them.

    5) the pen on the end contains two wolves

    6) SAVE YOUR GAME HERE, otherwise you will have to repeat the whole tutorial again, now tame the wolves.

    7) Now just exit the game WITHOUT saving, then start up the game again and tame the two wolves again. then repeat the process once more and boom you have your achievement.

I can understand why people might not have tried this method yet as most people will just skip the tutorial altogether, but yeah this works!

LexiPantsStill works as of August 27, 2014. The first time I loaded it up, the wolves didn't spawn so I reloaded and one did. Just used that one. Thanks very much. This was the last achievement that my 6 year old daughter needed to 100% the game.

IXCrucifixionXIas of today this still works. but instead of finding wolves, the box contained 10 bones and 2 spawn wolf eggs..same process applies, spawn wolves. save, give them bones. dont save, repeat until cheevo pops

Here is my guide to this pesky achievement.

    I used the seed: herpderp.
In this world the biome is just like a forest with lots of hills, good for wolves to live in. There are tons of wolves to be found.

    Steps
    1. cut trees for wood and make a house.
    2. slay skletons at night for bones.
    3. when you have found a wolf save in front of it with the bones in your hand.
    4. feed it the bones and tame it( you will know when it s tamed because there will be hearts around it)
    5. Exit without saving
    6. load up the save when you were in front of the wolf and repeat steps 4-6.
    7. do it five times for the achievement

When i played on this seed i quickly got wood from the trees and tried to establish an area that was open to build my house. at night i would go out and kill skeletons with the swords i would make from stone or wood.
As i grinded enough bones from the skeletons (about 10) i put them in the chest for safety. Little did i know that there was a wolf in front of my house.
So i roamed around to find other wolves and luckily i found about 17 in the world before getting bored.

    Hints
Other tamed wolves from other worlds count towards this achivement.

    ***How to Find Wolves!***

So the other solutions are great but are lacking in a good way to find a wolf or pack of wolves. Good news! The solution has been found!

First load up the saddle world. If you didn't make a world using the saddle seed, start one from scratch using the seed 3666440496532277820

Create/Join the world with it set to easy. Quickly build your craft table and a sword. Wait for night fall and kill some skeletons until you have ~8 bones.

After you have the bones save and reload the world on Peaceful (wolves will still appear in this mode and you won't have to deal with things attacking you).

Now here is the secret! Build a bed. Then take the bed with you in to the woods. There is a frozen tree area in the lower right hand corner of the map. Once you get there, set up the bed and go to sleep. When you wake up, pick the bed up and wander around the frozen area and VOILA there should be a wolf (almost always a pack though).

Save immediately. Feed bones to the wolf/wolves until you friended as many as you can, DONT SAVE, reload the world and repeat until achievement pops :)

TL;DR sleep in the frozen woods area and wolves almost always show up afterward.

This method has worked for many other people I have told it to, thus I figured it needed to be shared.

If it doesn't work the first time, wait for night and sleep again.

This achievement can be a pain to get, but hopefully this simpler way works better.

Simply go into a world, either a new world or a world where you already have bones, and make sure you have between 3-7 bones (wolves can be random in how many it takes) and walk until you can find a wolf or 2. This is the hardest and longest part of the achievement (took me about an hour).

Once you find yourself a wolf, don't do anything to it. Stop here and save your world. After you've saved befriend the wolf but hitting LT with your bones selected until it becomes your friend. Now exit the world WITHOUT SAVING and come back in. The wolf will still be there and you can befriend it again. Do this over 5 times and the achievement is yours.

I've included a video below to show exactly what to do, in case you were confused by this guide. Hope this helps!

Quite easy... You must play on easy, normal, or hard to get the bones from the skeletons. Peaceful WILL spawn wolves.(I did not know this when I got the achievement)
    1. Find a wooded area (the more trees, the more chance of finding wolves.)
    2. Make a house, or some kind of shelter, and get enough wool to make a bed. Once the bed is made, wait until the sun is down for a little while, so that the monsters will spawn outside. Go to sleep.
    3. In the morning, there will be burning monsters. If you search, you can find the loot left behind them. Keep looking, and you should find a good amount of bones. (If this doesn't work for you, just go slay some skeletons at night.)
    4. Once you get about 5 or 6 bones (more is good if you find a pack.), wait. You can do whatever you want, while you wait. It can get really annoying having to wait for wolves, but if you are in the woods, you should find some eventually.
    5. Once you find a wolf, SAVE THE GAME! Give the wolf your bones by tapping LT until hearts appear around it, a collar is appears on it, and it is your pet!
    6. Search around. They usually are in packs, so try to tame more than one if possible. (This is where the extra bones come into play.)
    7. Exit the world WITHOUT saving, reload the world, and the wolf should be somewhere near you, if not in the same spot, untamed. Give bones to it, and, if there are, the others, until they/it loves you. Reload the save until you get the achievement.

BE PATIENT. This achievement can be really boring.

There is currently (October 2012) a glitch to this achievement.

I had it unlock the first time I loaded my saved game after downloading an update. I was underground at the time and there were no wolves near me. I hadn't even seen a wolf in my world. Later when I explored the world I met a few wolves that were already tame.

In the newest version of Minecraft's Tutorial it's pretty easy to do this achievement in 5 minutes or less if you're lucky. Instead of loading a previously saved file or creating a new world select Play Tutorial.

When the Tutorial level has loaded, press cn_B to skip the tutorial and head forward & left through the gate. Go forward to the fountain. When you get to the fountain take another left and walk forward, you'll be at a chest with various things to tame and breed animals in it.

Take out the 10 Bones and 2 Wolf Spawners, go into the fenced off section next to the chest containing wolves. Select the Wolf Spawners by using cn_LB or cn_RB to cycle through your inventory slots until the Wolf Spawners are highlighted. To use them press cn_LT. Once there are 4 Wolves in the pen, select the Bones and "Tame" them with cn_LT. It takes at least 1 Bone to tame a Wolf, it can take over 7 to tame one as well (I just tested it a few minutes ago).

If you're lucky you'll be able to tame all 4 wolves with less than 10 Bones. If not, you can Exit without saving and repeat the process until you get the achievement!
