This is another method I've found on youtube.
It worked for me, and I've done it using only one bucket to carry lava and water.
EDIT: After the Title Update 9 in the tutorial level you can find bucket, water, and lava in the castle.
In the Brewing Room there is a water pool and a bucket (into a chest):
Downstairs there is a lava pool:
