Into Dripstone Cave Worthy of 10G
Once you have completed the prologue, Head to the next area called the Encampment to retrieve your pawns. Now that you have them, head back to Cassardis (your original starting town).
As you enter Cassardis there will be a guard on your left telling you how he hid in the well during the attack. Accept his quest to check out the sounds from deep in the well. Once you enter the well, the acheivement will pop. Alternatively you can go around the Encampment and just after passing it, there will be a road leading you to west. A very short sprint and there will be a cave to your south. This is an alternate entrance into Dripstone Cave. |

For this achievement you'll need to enter the azure caverns.
Once you've left Cassardis you'll then make your way to the Encampment. There you'll create and recruit your main pawn and recruit other pawns. Once you've got them, head back to Cassardis. At the main gate you'll see a guard near a well who will give you a quest to venture down and deal with whatever is making noises down there. Head into the well and once you've entered you'll pop this 10G achievement! |

Here's a strategy on how to survive Dripstone Cave. I played this as a level 8 Strider.
Though SPOILER if you don't want to know who/what is in there.
There are two entrances into Dripstone Cave. The well in Cassardis and the cave north of the Encampment.
Recommendation is the well as you'll get a higher vantage point for the enemies you face at the outset. Plus the game reveals the identity bit by bit from the well entrance not the cave.
Go down the well after accepting the Dripstone Cave quest from the guard who hid here.
Walk straight until you come to a fork in the path.
If you've accepted the rat-hunting quest, you'll meet up with a bunch of rats here (3 to 5) which you can kill.
If you go right, you can find some treasure.
But your main goal is left where you'll find many skulls and a cow carcass. The pawns will make comments. And you'll see more rats you can kill.
Keep going down until you come to a ledge. Don't jump down just yet. Looking down, you will see a dark shape at the underground river's edge. Your pawns will most likely alert you then of the enemy which turns out to be lizard like humanoids called saurians.
Eat some food to fill up on health if you need to by going into inventory and choosing Use on the food item from the inventory of the person you want healed.
You're weak enough at this point of the game that one well-placed strike could kill you easily.
So I recommend you stay back and use long-range shots, only climbing down to revive fallen pawns.
If you actually do follow the battle to the ground, keep yourself dry so you can light the cave up with your lamp. Waterfalls along the path do not help with that task and will douse you and the lamp so keep an eye out.
There will be two waves of saurians so watch out if it seems the coast is clear, more should come after the first pause. The pawns will most likely shout something about the second wave to let you know.
Also be aware of your stamina. Stagger your shots so that you don't end up catching your breath for lack of it.
And your position. The saurians prove lizards can jump. So back away towards the fork in the road if the saurians happen to leap onto your ledge. They'll mainly focus on their ground floor territory so will lose interest as long as the pawns remain on floor level.
As to pawns, I recommend choosing pawns with fire and healing spells. Maybe one higher level soldier to act as tank. My own personal soldier pawn had to be revived quite a few times. Also make sure your pawns have their own lanterns to light. Saurians prefer the dark and get flustered more easily with light in their eyes. ;)
So basic review: Light lantern. Avoid water. Keep your distance. Revive pawns. Hammer with long-range attacks. And kick some saurian tail!
After the fight, be sure to pick up any drops as the saurians often drop skin, tail, and maybe claws which are useful for crafting and enhancing gear later. I even got a poison sac from one!
If all you care about is the Dripstone quest then you can exit the way you came.
Or you can move further back into the caverns towards the second entrance. You'll find a mining lode (get a pickaxe first from a store), some grapes, a chest/openable crate...
And a padlocked gate.
Strike off the padlock with your melee weapon and you can walk into a tunnel with a room on the left.
If you've got the spider-killing quest then you're in luck! The room's infested with them! Get 5-8 of your quota right here. ;) Along with some other junk. ;p
Going all the way down the tunnel will bring you to the other entrance. Careful if you go out though. There are wolves on the other side and if you're still weak from the saurian fight, you may want to avoid that tussle. ;)
Go back to the well side to finish your quest. And you also now have a clear shortcut past the Encampment if you want to save some walking time. ;)
Have fun and good luck in your travels! |
