Great video provided by CrispyVictim, but it does not get to the heart of how mind-boggling difficult this achievement can actually be.
If you are having difficulty passing the building collapse, then here are a few additional things to know about this achievement:
1. The only coins that count towards this achievement are the ones on the ground. Coins from kills do not count towards this and can be collected safely by not doing Chainsaw Dash.
2. You must be actively doing Chainsaw Dash on the coins. It does not have to be continuous. If you are not comfortable in the way it is going (i.e. about to overheat and abruptly stop or misaligned), then steer away from the coins, press B (stop), wait a few seconds, line up and continue collecting. The few seconds to get your bearing back will do wonders for you in the long run.
3. If you die from the building crashing on you, the restart position is at the beginning of the lightning strikes and where you can get this achievement:
4. There is NO WAY to go FASTER. I have tried many different angles and button presses and none of them work. The building crashing is the hardest part of this achievement. The level difficulty has no bearing and there is nothing you can do to make yourself dodge the building. Here is how I did it, step by step:
- Once progressing through the coin path, defeating the firemen (4 of them, one is named) and then continuing on gathering a few more coins in a snake-like path, you will happen upon a split path. One path leads to the castle, the other leads to certain doom (Labyrinth movie reference).
- The right path is where you want to go. The barriers have no affect on speed. They are there as a distraction.
- Line Juliet up to take on a straight, and I mean STRAIGHT, shot across the quad where the building is going to fall on you.
- How you want to line up is this, slightly to the left of the coins from the jump. You will see the line of coins from the jump go into an arc. Line up straight with this arc, but to the left (offset).
- Once lined up, do not turn, move side to side, angle, or otherwise make any movement other than straight ahead. What happens is the movement 'slows' you down. The developers made the time almost so precise that a slight move in a direction will prevent you from making it across WITH all the coins being picked up.
- There are three (3) groups of coins for this section:
a. The line of coins from the initial jump - arc.
b. The main three (3) lines of coins - do not have to be in the middle, just near them - remember STRAIGHT
c. The 9 coin square you jump through when making the 'jump of life'.
- Once you have cleared the building crashing down on your pretty little self, there is a final snake of coins leading up to the baseball field event. Take your time collecting these coins there is no rush in collecting them - only that you collect them with Chainsaw Dash.
Once the last coin is collected in the string of coins, the achievement pops. The video gives a good visual of this, but for whatever reason was lucky in their moment to avoid the building. Good luck and don't let the building crashing on you multiple times frustrate you. This is why I wrote this and I hope it helps.
NOTE: It took me a total of 26 restarts to finally find the STRAIGHT path to line up and survive the building crash - I have screen shots ;D
NOTE: Runner7922 adds:
...But by hitting the colored part of this ramp, it always caused me to miss a few coins. (And for the longest time, I didn't even know it!) Instead you have to hit the ramp BETWEEN the two rainbow coloured areas; which is not what you would expect...Thanks for the addition, Runner7922!
