This is missable - but in practice is unlikely to be missed.

As Alester, pressing X uses his vision of R'llhor and shows hidden objects - these will usually either be hidden loot in chests/boxes or hidden door levers, often disguised as torches.

There are a number of them which you have to find to advance the plot, so you only need to find a few additional ones to get to the required to unlock this.

Try to get into the habit of checking when you come across chests in Kings Landing, Riverspring etc - there are quite a lot of random hidden items scattered around.

Chapter 8 has a number of hidden items, including the seven hidden keys that you have to find to move the story forwards. It unlocked for me whilst following that quest, and I hadn't made any particular effort to locate hidden objects up to that point.
