You can earn three stars in a level in two ways; either by sneaking past everyone, without killing or being detected, or by killing everyone you come across. Both methods will just as easily give you a three star rank.

The easier way, however, is to just go serial killer and slaughter anyone you see. Here are some things I kept in mind while getting three stars, going for kills in every level:

- If you get detected, and the 800 point deduction appears in red, you should just restart checkpoint from the pause menu. This'll reset your session status to being undetected, and you'll still net the "no detection" bonus at the end of the level. Plus you get to keep your 800 points.

- Distract guards before killing them. If there's a lamp, gong or similar anywhere in their vicinity, you can throw a dart at it to get 150 extra points before going for the kill. You can lure guards towards a lamp by running one step, to make a little bit of noise, and then hiding somewhere close-by. You can only get the distraction once per guard.

- Try to hide in shadows before you get the kill, to get a 200 point "undetected" bonus. If there's nothing to hide in, you can also get the bonus by hanging down from a perch as they walk past. Last, but not least, you can also get the bonus by teleporting through the guard using the Mark of Serenity skill. You can lure stationary guards past shadowy areas by running one step as well.

- Always hide corpses if you can! You can only stuff one corpse into a dumpster, but you can hide as many as you wish within vents.

- Terrorizing guards can work out very well. A terrorized guard will give you a 600 point "friendly fire" bonus if he kills any of his buddies, which can be more than the 400 points you might score if you kill him yourself. You can terrorize guards by using the arrow in your inventory, stringing up corpses or by tossing corpses at other guards. Terrorizing is pretty situational and requires a bit of creativity on your side, and isn't exactly necessary, but it's pretty fun and the more points you get, the better.

- The highest-scoring kills are using traps, getting a guard to shoot another guard, lynching them and dragging someone into a vent to slice their throat. All of them give 600 points, while a vanilla stealth kill only yields 400.

- In the Tabriz levels, it's a very good idea to throw darts at traps and lure enemies into them. They will obliviously walk right into them and give you a hefty 600 points for the kill. Also, in Tabriz, you can get double points for a kill if there's a spike pit nearby. Early on in one of the levels, I got 1200 points for dropping a chandelier on two guards, and then another 1200 for tossing them into the spikes not two feet away.

- And one final tip: the three stars aren't really that hard to obtain at all. Just work your way through the level, killing everyone you can find in as creative ways as you can, while avoiding detection, and you'll be more than fine. I just wanted to provide a comprehensive solution. Finally, it's probably a good idea to get the stars before you get started on New Game+, as that mode is slightly harder.
