I was having troubles getting even one perfect pushup; my arms aren't quite as strong as they were when I was young.

I made a few slight adjustments, and I don't know if it was one or combination of adjustments that shot me from 0-1 perfect pushups to 10. Here's a few tips, followed by some videos afterwards:

Kinect Tuner-
The Kinect Tuner (hit the guide button to find this) sets a default viewing angle, but then I adjusted the sensor and hit "tilt down" two more times. It barely detected me standing up but when I got into pushup position I wasn't getting cut off anymore.

Arm Position-
I was emulating the trainer's position for the arms but on my perfect one I had a them out a little wider and they were easier for me. I think the game isn't overly picking on arm position

For every successful pushup, you can rest for 1-2 pushups. Any more than two and the challenge will end, and it can be cutting it close at 2 sometimes so keep your pace after your min-break.

Tempo/Trainer's Instruction-
The trainer encourages you not to look at the TV, but it's kind of hard not to sometimes. Seems like they don't punish you too much, but obviously you'll have better form if you are looking down at the ground. If you do look straight down and go off the trainer's spoken queues, I've noticed that when he/she says "and up", that they actually have already begun pushing back up already a half second before.

Shaking, low or high hips-
Unlike arm position, the game does seem to picky about your arms shaking a lot on the way up and your hip position. I tried to cheat a few times and lay all the way down too and those didn't count. You'll have to emulate the tempo and position of your trainer properly.
Here are two videos showing fitwelike doing these pushups. The first one shows the correct way, whereas the second shows the incorrect way (going way too fast!). The achievement wouldn't unlock in a Fitness Test like they're doing , as it has to be done through the Challenges, but the first video shows the correct technique.
