This achievement can be a bit misleading, so I'm gonna try to clarify what it means, and give a few pointers.

First off, ignore the achievement picture. Secret areas are both the kind hidden behind fake walls and just regular hard-to-reach spots with stars/items. Therefore it's hard to know just what counts as a secret area and what doesn't, which is why I gave up on writing a full guide for all of them, as I was only around 20 by my own count when I got the achievement for 30.

I hit 60 areas by the end of the Catacombs, which is only about 3/5 of the way through the game, and after that I stopped looking for them altogether. I still ended up with 67 at the end of the game, so there is plenty of room to miss secrets and still get the achievement.

Many of the secret constellations and probably all of the souvenirs count as secret areas, so if you get all of those, you'll be well on your way. Fake walls can be revealed by either shining the light of a gem beam on them, or simply passing through them. They're usually not all that hard to spot if you're paying attention (remember that some are small enough that you have to crawl through!) since they tend to look a little different from the rest of the wall they're in. Ceilings and rarely floors can also be fake, so don't ignore those either. Bombable walls are few and far between, so don't worry if you haven't seen one in a while. They always look the same, with big fat cracked bricks, so they're actually fairly hard to miss.

But fake walls are only half the story at most. A lot of the secrets are simply normal areas, like climbing to a high place with items or dropping off a ledge onto a hidden platform, so if you see some transparent blocks in the sky or a few stars hanging below a ledge, investigate!

Finally, in the open areas like the Rooftop City, make sure to explore both the skies and the ground as best you can. These areas can be confusing, but they often hold things like item carry upgrades, so they're worth it in more ways than one.

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment or send me a message and I'll help you as best I can. Good luck! :)
