How to unlock the Gold Shooter achievement

This is a very hard achievement to obtain, one definitely for your trophy case.

The key here is PATTERNS. There is a certain style and pattern for the bosses on each level.

Each level at the start gives you cannon fodder to shoot up, reach a certain number of kills, and you'll face the boss for that level. It sounds VERY daunting to do this 100 times, with increasing difficulty each time.

Lets get the trivial bits out of the way first. Set your movement rate in the E4 mode settings to the maximum (fastes) setting, and set your shooter to shoot in the direction you are aiming, NOT the 4-way shooter.

The "cannon-fodder" part of every level is always approached the SAME way. All you need to do is hold the shoot button and constantly twirl your right or left stick in a continuous circle, your choice of direction. You're gonna need to do this at least 100 times so find your rhthym and make this thumb action your second nature.

Now, like previously stated, each level, starting from 1-5 has its own unique 'boss'. You'll know what boss to expect when playing, but be wary of the BIG boss. This guy is best taken out by holding your shield from the very start and moving in next to the core while holding the trigger, thus filling him with hot lead and killing him before your shield runs out (hopefully). NOTE: In the starting stages, you can develop and technique to 'evade and shoot' which is necessary if your shooter hasnt reached its MAX level yet. But dont rely on this towards the 60s because there will be a point where its IMPOSSIBLE to 'evade and shoot'.

Towards the final stages, you'll need more than 1 life to use on one BIG boss.

The holy grail of climbing the level system of this mode is to NOT WASTE ANY LIVES on ANY of the "sub-bosses" throughout the levels. Even in the 80s and 90s levels, i managed to survive the sub-bosses whenever they cropped up.

Nothing I can write can help you much with them, its your learning curve to learn their pattern, and develop a technique to evade and despatch them in your style and your comfort zone.

Remember, avoid deaths, every life will count so dont waste them. Your shooter's power will HALVE if you die, so you will suffer heavily if you dont maintain the MAX level 20 power shooter in your arsenal.

I would recommend a video, but all the ones ive seen arent really helpful.

Above all, take your time, be patient, learn from your mistakes (write down where you went wrong every time) and dont feel pressured to keep trying and do this on the same day. Give yourself a break, and it will come naturally.

Boy o' Boy did it feel good to unlock this achievement, especially because it was my last one for the game. Good luck!

x ZoMBiiE xI haven't gotten this achevement yet, but I recommend sweeping from side to side at the beginning of every stage. It makes going through the fodder parts much faster.

OK! This is a big one so let's go through it slowly.

The aim is to beat stage 100 to complete revenge mode.

Now I picked the 'one way' shooter and set the sensitivity at 3/4 full (approx 635). The reason we're picking the one way shooter is because of the concentrated fire power you get to use on the bosses.

Now let's get some basics out the way.

    - This will take you a maximum of 90 minutes in one play through.
    - Each stage contains an endurance round followed by a boss.
    - Each stage you progress makes your target increase by 25 for the endurance round. Wave 1 target is 200 and wave 100 target is 2725.
    - Every 500 enemies you defeat increases your blaster by one level.
    - You gain an extra life for completing 10 waves.
    - Never hide behind the HUD in each corner of the screen as you will become hidden.
    - Always hold down the fire button.
    - It is possible to get up to wave 85 without losing a life.
    - Do not get discouraged if you die earlier. I messed up three times before level 85 and still completed revenge mode!

    --------------------------
    Endurance Round
    --------------------------
    - Blaster levels 0 - 4 mean you will have to be on your guard and shoot down any enemy getting close to you.
    - Blaster levels 5 - 14 mean you can start to 'sweep' the screen from side to side just using left and right. You will be slow at first spanning the screen anywhere between 2 - 5 seconds.
    - Blaster levels 15 to 20 mean you can travel left to right without stopping.

    ------------------
    Boss Round
    ------------------
There are a few terms I'm going to use which mean the following.

    -Tank-
Meaning you are going to use your shield and drive yourself into the enemy while firing constantly so that they take damage from ALL your shots.

    -Snipe-
Meaning you will shoot from a distance.

    -Absorb-
Meaning you will use your shield to avoid taking shots from the enemy.

    -Evade-
Meaning you will dodge enemy shots without using your shield.

    -'safe' zone-
An area where you will not be shot at. These 'safe' zones usually move so move with it.

    -'wall'-
    The edge of the screen.

There will also be more units of the same boss your fighting as you advance. This excludes boss five.

Waves 1 to 24 consist of one boss.
Waves 26 to 49 consist of two bosses.
Waves 51 to 99 consist of three bosses

And now for the main course!

    Boss One

    Movement: Stationary
Attack Method: Shoots in a straight line.
Increasing Difficulty: Will shoot more times in a beat and will shoot in more directions.
Safe Solution: Stay at the far left or far right of the screen and start Sniping while Evading its shots with a slight up and down movement. Although it shoots in more directions per difficulty, you will see that it is a pattern of two. For example, if the boss shoots in 3 directions per 4 beats, it can only shoot in six directions total, so you can find a safe spot and just Snipe without Evading. With two or three of the bosses, you might need to absorb some shots before one or two of them get destroyed.

    Boss Two

Movement: Moves in a straight line while bouncing off the 'walls' in the same angle it hits.
Attack Method: Shoots in a straight line.
Increasing Difficulty: Will shoot more times in a beat and will shoot in more directions.
Safe Solution: Stay at the far left or far right of the screen. If the boss moves away from you then you need to Snipe while Evading its shots with a slight up and down movement. If the boss moves closer to you then you need to Tank it. With two or three of them, you might need to tank one or two of them as they're shots make it difficult to judge where is safe and where isn't.

    Boss Three

Movement: Moves in a straight line on a set path and will continue through the 'wall' to it's point of origin.
Attack Method: Uses bombs which fire shots in multiple directions.
Increasing Difficulty: Will use more bombs and bombs shots will increase.
Safe Solution: Follow the line that appears to where it finishes and start Sniping the boss. As the boss or its shots come close, tank it.
If there are two or three bosses, you need to find the furthest point from their path and start Sniping so that your level 20 Blaster will hit all of them. Try and take down one at a time or two if they're following the same flight path while absorbing shots.

    Boss Four

Movement: Moves in a 'boomerang' shape on a set path and will continue through the 'wall' to it's point of origin.
Attack Method: Shoots in a straight line.
Increasing Difficulty: Fires more shots per beat and has a widening spreader effect.
Safe Solution: You need to see where it's flight path goes and to position yourself away from the front of it. As it appears, start Sniping it and follow it from behind using its flight path.
If there are two or three bosses, you need to find the furthest point from their path and start Sniping so that your level 20 Blaster will hit all of them. Try and take down one at a time or two if they're following the same flight path while absorbing shots.

    Boss Five

Movement: Stationary while four spheres move around it clockwise.
    Attack Method: Varies.
Increased Difficulty: More shots per beat
    Solution:
    - Waves 5 to 10 -
The spheres will shoot outwards in a constant stream. You need to Snipe it and move clockwise with the spheres so that you avoid their shots entirely and to move with this 'safe' zone.

    - Waves 15 to 20 -
The spheres will shoot inwards in a constant stream meaning there is no safe zone. You need to Snipe it while Absorbing or Evading it's shots if you run out of shield.

    - Waves 25 to 60 -
The boss itself will shoot outwards in a straight line. As it shoots in a straight line, you will notice there is a 'safe' zone which moves slowly clockwise. You can either follow this 'safe' zone or as you come close to the top third of the screen, Absorb or Evade the shots anti-clockwise until you're in a comfortable enough position. As always, keep Sniping.

    - Waves 75 to 80 -
The boss itself will shoot outwards slower than previous waves so it looks like it's firing a 'wave' at you. There isn't a 'safe' zone so you need to Snipe it, just out of reach of the spheres, in one position while Absorbing it's shots. It is imperative that you do not waste more shield than you have to. A quick tap of the shield button is enough to get rid of shots around your circumference. Remember as well that the yellow parts of your ship do not take damage where as the green centre does, so let shots pass through your yellow wings instead of Absorbing them. It is possible to do this without using any lives.

    - Waves 85 to 90 -
The spheres will start firing at you in 'waves' in four directions each. Unless your EXTREMELY good at Evading, you WILL lose a life. Snipe it from either the left or right side 'wall' leaving about an inch between you and the 'wall' while absorbing the shots. Last as long as you can and when you lose a life, Tank it while holding down the shield button. This gives you six seconds with a level 10 Blaster to the bosses core! If your unlucky enough to lose another life then just Tank it again.

    - Waves 95 to 100 -
The Spheres will start shooting outwards in a straight line. Stick to the far left or far right 'wall' in one position while Sniping and Absorbing its shots. Wave 95 is easily done without losing a life! Wave 100 can be done while only losing one life. Again, if you do lose a life, Tank it while holding down the shield button!

You would of noticed throughout this guide that I label certain Solutions 'safe' solutions. Here is the advanced version which you should only try if your confident and have the highest level Blaster you can get on that particular wave.

    - Waves 1 to 24 -
Tank the boss as soon as your able to shoot it.

    - Waves 26 to 49 -
Tank BOTH bosses as soon as your able to shoot them.

    - Waves 51 to 74 -
Tank ALL bosses as soon as your able to shoot them.

    - Waves 76 to 99 -
First of all, snipe them as long as you can and then Tank ALL of them.

And finally, if you wanted to know the HP of the bosses then look below. The first figure is the cumulative HP of the mini bosses and the final figure is the HP of the fifth boss. Each set is five waves.

    100/400
    110/450
    120/500
    130/550
    140/600
    300/650
    320/700
    340/750
    360/800
    380/850
    600/900
    630/950
    660/1000
    690/1050
    720/1100
    750/1150
    780/1200
    810/1250
    840/1300
    870/1350

And that is that! Achievement unlocked!

redjarmanAwesome guide dude, thanks to this I got to level 68 on my first attempt. Then I sorta made some stupid mistakes and leveled down too much to continue.

Brucey B CoolYeah, it's a big problem when you level down at that stage but it's still salvageable. Trust me, now that you know most of the boss patterns, you'll get this achievement soon ;)

All these guides are great but miss a few simple things.

In the options switch fire mode to right stick. This allows you to fire in ways you are not traveling!

Right trigger is the shield! This works great for bosses or when you are in trouble.

The other guides take care of the dirty work, I just wanted to add those few small things
