To play the game you need to pick the open string corresponding to the colour of the bandits. You get bonus points for shooting the bandit in the front with the star and you maintain a combo when you hit the lead starred bandit consecutively. Bonus points are also given for quick drawing them near the start. Shooting the wall by shooting an empty lane causes all the bandits to jump forward and breaks your combo streak. The tiny bandits and the thin bandits take one shot each and the big bandits take two hits each.

The main thing is to focus on the levels/requirements. Each level has a multiplier of that level number. For example, level 3 has a 3x multiplier. So you want to get your level up to 10 which is the maximum. To get to the next level you need to get five stars by beating five requirements, so that is 45 requirements/stars to get the max. You can get up to 3 stars per game, so you might want to end that game if you know you have got 3 requirements done already.

The game wants you to pick short muted notes and if you don't do that the game will seem unresponsive. You might be able to mute the strings enough with your left hand, pick, and palm, but I recommend putting something under the strings beside the pickup like a foam mute, a sponge, or even rolled up toilet paper. Make sure you re-calibrate and re-tune if you add something.

(I've been playing with bass, so guitarists might have a different experience.)
