Can be done as early as lv.5 ( EDIT: Level 4 as a Human with the bonus skill point. ) starting as a Rogue Archer, The ability you want to use is called 'Full Draw' and it's effect is that if you hit an enemy at full health it does up to 1600% damage with your bow. using the 'Bow of the Dragon' (which has 62DPS) I was able to hit upwards of 1400.

This achievement also appears to be buggy as it didn't unlock until maybe the 7th time I hit 1000+, at which time I hit a 1002, so If it doesn't unlock the first time, just keep trying until it does, you'll get it eventually.

EDIT: The achievement is NOT specific to your character, and can be unlocked with a party member, so if you're not playing a rogue you can still unlock this achievement with any of the 3 rogue companions in the game.

TabushcusIt doesn't have to be a rogue. You can use a warrior or a mage. Since i was playing as Cassandra and the achievement popped for me. i don't know what skill i used to get it, but it doesn't matter.

SpakonI never said you have to be a rogue, the solution gives a quick method to get it, By the end of the game pretty much all classes can hit 1000+ without even using abilities.

Elite1111111111If you're playing a Warrior, an easy way to do it is with the Sword and Shield ability that is used to break through guard (assuming the guard damage counts, I'm not sure if it does.) Easily does several thousand to enemies that have guard.

Dragonborn GearThe first time I used full Draw I hit 1200 or so and didn't unlock it. I don't like buggy achievements, but thankfully this one unlocked the second time I got over 1k.

AnatanaLike Elite said, breaking guard is by far the easiest way to get this, I play mage but when I switched to my tank for a minute it popped instantly
