Candy Corn is the default costume on your second character. It causes that character to spout out cheesy one liners and not be able to attack. Its not useless though as its ability to soak up damage is better than many of the other costumes.

When given the option to buy the upgrade to the suit, I suggest you do so.
Early to Late gameplay strategies:

Spam the Creepy treat cards.
Costume Quest 2 (Xbox 360)Creepy Card SharkThe Creepy Card Shark achievement in Costume Quest 2 (Xbox 360) worth 61 pointsTry every Creepy Treat Card in combat

Each card typically has a 3-5 battle cooldown period but with this many cards in the game, you can almost always have something available in the meantime.

At first you'll be a bit limited with what you have available but at the same time the combat is moderately quick. Later into the game you can use some very interesting combination of cards to ensure you almost never really have to fight anything.

You can come up with a battle strategy like.

Battle 1: Peanut Butter Bomb: Obliterate all enemies

Battle 2: Pampla-Mooses - Grants additional 100 candy after win, Snickets - Double candy reward, Tongue Punchers - Double Experience Reward

Battle 3: Jelly Beaks - Resets all cards, Peanut Butter Bomb: Obliterate all enemies

Battle 4: Licky Plops - Obliterate 1 minion, Rice Creepies - Next minion that attacks a chosen player is automatically defeated, Goozers - An enemy's attacks heals rather than damage

Battle 5: Ghost Munch - A minion's attacks damage itself, Carameals - Cuts a minion's health in half on each turn, Morons - All remaining attacks by hero are Amazing!

etc... be creative!
Final boss strategy:

Other than Candy Corn, costume choices don't matter. I used Upgraded Solar System and Upgraded Hot Dog because I can.

The final boss is really easy so you could get away with using no cards.
but if you really want to make it easy, these are two are definitely ones I suggest.

Pie Cake - All minions drain 25% health per turn
Morons - All remaining attacks by heroes are Amazing!

Pie Cake is ridiculous. Normally you can't target a boss with a card that effects minion but that card hits any enemy on the field regardless. You're looking at 750 damage to the boss on the first turn while he is invulnerable and another 563 damage on the second turn. That's far more then what any other card can offer to help you in this fight at all.

Morons makes your attacks Amazing by default for the rest of the battle so you're dishing out extra damage for the remainder of the fight. Since this fight takes a couple of minutes to complete, that's a buff that lasts a couple minutes.

For the third one, I can suggest:

Sour Dumps to recharge all 3 special meters would be useful because I thought Candy Corn actually doing something in a fight was amusing.

I haven't had the opportunity to try Candy Teeth - Weaken all minion attacks for remainder of fight or Peanut Butter Bomb - Obliterate all minions! on the final boss.. but if they work (I doubt PBB would work on the boss itself which would make it worthless if it doesn't) then they can be very beneficial.
