There is a small community that still plays almost all the game modes at the time of writing this so realistically you wouldn't need to boost. Just keep joining games and slashing away. The best game mode is definitely free-for-all since you have the greatest chance for kills and its very fast paced.
If you are going to boost this achievement then you can set up a private match, team deathmatch on Dark Forest, and invite your partner. The person losing should be on the Masons. Only one other person is needed to start the game. You'll pretty much have 15 mins to spawn camp your opponent to rack up roughly 50 kills, depending on speed and spawns. Unfortunately at the end of the match the game auto cycles to a new map so you'll have to quit out and host another match.

See above for the actual requirements, this is just to address a glitch that can make helmets missable/unobtainable.

I think I've discovered a bit more info about the veteran helmet glitches.

There are two ways I am definitely aware of that you can mess up your veteran helmet achievements. There are likely more.

What I've discovered all comes down to one thing. You will ONLY pop the veteran helmet if you:
    A) you have all weapons unlocked for that class (this should be obvious)
    B) have that class set in your loadout when you unlock a new weapon (not 100% proven, but it happened to me twice, and the way I was able to fix it, makes me think this is correct)

The practical applications of this cause 2 problems:
    1) For the man at arms class, if you finish their swords or blunts while playing as another class, (at least 2 of their weapon types are used as secondary weapons by another class), and that is the last weapon you needed for the man at arms, it will not unlock their helmet.
    2) THIS CAN AFFECT ANY CLASS. If you switch your loadout for your next respawn to a new class as you are finishing up your current class, you will not get your veteran helmet. e.g. When I had 10 or so kills left to go on my archer's last weapon, I went ahead and switched my loadout so I could respawn as a vanguard when I was done. As a result, no veteran archer helmet.

    The workaround:
There has been a rather vague workaround posted to the effect that popping other achievements can help you get your veteran helmet. And it can, but I can be a bit more specific now. One thing that definitely does work is, when you are about to unlock a new weapon (it can be a 25 kill or a 100 kill one, or even a secondary, I believe), change your loadout to the class you are missing the veteran helmet for. So in my example above, when I had 24 kills on my 1st vanguard weapon, I set my loadout back to archer. I then ran up to the enemy and triggered a respawn (which gives you 5 seconds), and immediately killed the enemy. The weapon unlocked, followed by the missing veteran helmet. It may not even be strictly necessary to actually respawn, simply having your loadout set to the other class may be enough (it is certainly enough to make you miss the helmet in the first place).

It's possible this will actually work with any achievement, if you have your loadout set to the class you are missing it from, but it definitely did work for me on the weapon unlock achievements.
