There is no easy way to do this. It's based 100% on luck more than anything, and will take absurd amounts of time.

The online mode in Kengo is simulation, meaning you don't actually do anything. You just choose a "match," where you fight against someone either a few ranks above or below you, and the winner gets "points" and moves up in rank. Naturally, the loser loses points.

These "points" determine your place on the leaderboard, not your win/loss record, so that may calm some nerves. You also don't lose as many points when you lose a match as you do for gaining points for winning from my experience.

As for winning the fights, remember those "AI Traits" you unlocked during the single player? Yeah, those come into play here. How you played the single player will determine how your online character will fight. Did you spam the hell out of a certain combo? Well, your AI guy will do that as well. Try to use a character with few to no negative traits (examples being "Weak to Attacks," "Slices through Air," and "A Sheltered Life") and one with maxed out health and/or attack power.

Remember that you cannot use a character online until you have beaten the "Main Mode" with them.

Cheap combos are key here. Most people use a 'hit-hit-hi..BLOCK' move, where you hit the A button to interrupt your combo, then repeating the process. It's noobish but it works surprisingly well. Find a combo that's easy to pull off (such as Y-Y-Y) and "break it" after the second hit. It will take some practice to get the timing down however.

Expect to lose matches as well. As I mentioned, it's mostly luck if you win or not. Sometimes you get beaten by the same guy twice, but beat him eventually and never have to fight him again. Persistence is key, but I promise you will be yelling profanity at your TV at one point or another.

For the "Top 1%" component, you need to be 75th in the world or better (as of this writing). That's roughly 1600 points as well, if I remember correctly. All I can say is keep at it, and if you have something that can keep pushing the "A" button for you, you can let this go all day and rack up points.

It may not take as long as it seems, but with it being so luck based, it's anyone's guess. Currently I have a 100/60 W/L record and i'm in the top 300 in the world. By my calculations, if I win 50-75 more games (losses factored in as well) I should have it.

EDIT - I did it. It took me just shy of 300 games total, but I have a score of 1338 and a rank of 75. Therefore you must beat my score to get the achievement. One tip I can give is BE PERSISTENT. You will lose as I said, but eventually you'll get a path of opponents you can plow through with ease.

I also found the opponents from 400th to 250th to be the hardest and most time consuming. This is the section that most people get to then give up. Believe me when I say if you can get past this hurdle, you're in the clear. Once you get to 150th or so, your rank doesn't even drop (except maybe one or two points) when you lose. Hell, I got 130 points for winning one fight once!

As for tactics, I HIGHLY recommend this guide. I DID NOT write this, but I followed it almost to the letter. The only difference being I beat it on Difficult instead of Easy.

"The custom character you want for the online is Chiba Sanako on easy. In the first level, immediately use to switch to Stance III and begin to use … etc, which is a more complex version of the technique outlined in “All Characters Completed (D)” since you must attack twice then block to cancel before the second attack hits. Since this is a very fast combo, it will be hard to do, but do your best. It is ok if you do not do this level perfectly, but do as well as you can. Also, make sure you defeat the boss with a one hit move to get a bonus orb as you will not be obtaining any other bonus orbs for this character. After the first level, make sure you purchase moves in Stance III so that you have: Rhythm Attack, Rapid Rhythm, and W Fly Blade S, and set Stance III as your base stance by pressing . Also, make sure you allot your orbs so that you max out Health and Attack, and have one orb in Stamina and none in Defense. From this point onwards, you will be using the … etc combo exclusively. The reason for this is that we want the online fighter to do nothing but this continuous attack, and to achieve this, we must use nothing but this continuous attack in the main game. Use it unforgivingly. If an enemy is blocking, just keep attacking in this manner until their stamina is depleted and they can no longer block. Do not walk towards an enemy to attack them, just start with the combo, and let the ‘Step In’ part of the attack bring you closer to the enemy. In other words, do NOTHING but this attack. You will not get any other achievements in this run except possibly “Untouchable Light” on the last level, and the one for beating the game with Sanako if you don’t have it yet. "
