This isn't a solution just a description of a method I used to get a big whack of xp quite quickly and fairly easily to help get up to that lvl 16 for the fereldan frostback. It might seem a bit cheesy but I wanted levels! In my case I went from lvl 6 to lvl 11. You need the jaws of hakkon dlc for this. Using stealth is near essential, indeed could be very frustrating without it.

Go to frostback basin as soon as you have the 8 power required. After speaking to the professor in the starting area and getting the initial quest, you need to reach the friendly avaar hold in the north. Make your way up the eastern coast, stealthing past enemies as necessary.

About midway up the coast on the way to the hold there's a fisherman having some friendly banter with a couple of the jaws, you need to speak to the fisherman so move around the huts, stay out of sight, I was waiting for them to leave but they handily dropped dead instead, the first time I did this they wandered off. You need his boat to reach an island called the lady's rest. The fisherman says he needs permission from the thane so continue following the coast up.

Upon reaching the hold, there's no harm looking around, it's a high level area so there's some nice stuff to buy (though might not be able to afford) and people to talk to. Be sure to speak to the thane and go through her dialogue options to get permission to use the boat. With this go back to the fisherman and use his boat to get to the lady's rest.

There aren't any enemies on the island initially and it's quite small, there is some nice rare felandaris, some everite and silverite. Once you're satisfied you've explored you can interact with the rift in the hut. After your interaction with the spirit is done a good number of jaws appear, they won't make a beeline for you, if you're careful you can sneak/stealth around the edge of the island and past them to get back to your boat.

Now all you have to do is make it back down to the professor! You should get good xp at a few points following this method, I hope it's useful, if you want to try it and want me to clarify something feel free to msg me.
