This achievement is pretty straightforward. Whenever you're given the option to mod your vehicle (center section of the home hub world), you can increase your vehicle's armour or weapon for gearbits. I'm not sure of the exact amount, but you'll need no more than 10 thousand gearbits, which you should be able to accrue naturally through the game. You'll need to fully upgrade BOTH armour and weapon for the achievement to pop.

Edit #1: Sea vehicles are significantly cheaper to fully upgrade, almost 1/4th the price of a land vehicle. If you own/bought a sea vehicle, I suggest spending your gearbits to upgrade it instead of a land vehicle. It'll save you both time and money.

Catatonic NaliSame with air vehicles, they're also much cheaper to upgrade than land vehicles.

Catatonic NaliActually if anything I've found the air vehicles are even cheaper. With a 20% discount the final upgrade for both weapons and shields on my Sun Runner was only 320 gears, compared to 400 gears on my Dive Bomber.

On my Hot Streak land vehicle the final upgrades with the same 20% discount are both 960 gears.
So assuming it's the same across all vehicles (I can't confirm this) then the air vehicles are 1/3 the price of the land vehicles and the sea vehicles are slightly more expensive but still well under half the price.

Catatonic NaliSorry for the comment spam but I've just tested all my vehicles to confirm whether they all have the same upgrade prices.
From testing 6 land vehicles, 5 air vehicles and 3 sea vehicles I can confirm that:

Without any discounts, upgrades for all land vehicles start at 800 gears and each subsequent upgrade costs 100 gears more than the last. So to fully upgrade a land vehicle without any discounts it will cost you 10,000 gears.

Without discounts, upgrades for all air vehicles start at 200 gears and each subsequent upgrade costs 50 gears more than the last. Fully upgrading an air vehicle without any discounts will cost you 3,000 gears

Without discounts, upgrades for all sea vehicles start at 300 gears and each subsequent upgrade costs 50 gears more than the last. Fully upgrading a sea vehicle without any discounts will cost you 4,000 gears.

I hope somebody finds this helpful.
