Start by going to the Olympic Games and enter Olympic Mode. Select the Hammer Throw event on High difficulty. Follow along through the tutorials until you get to the actual event.

To throw the hammer you start by holding down the "LB" button, then spin the "LS" counter-clockwise as fast as possible. The faster you can spin, the farther your hammer will go. Release the "LB" button when the meter in in the green zone for the best throw.

I recommend placing the controller in your lap and grasping the LS to spin it, rather than just using your thumb.

Keep in mind that once you pick up the hammer you only have a set amount of time before the hammer will be thrown automatically.
