How to unlock the What Goes Up achievement

I found that the easiest way to kill the Hydras when they're in the air, by far, is with the Black Widow gun. All you have to do is fire the grenades at the Hydras, when they're in the air, of course, and detonate with the X button. Try to anticipate the paths the Hydras will travel in their "flights" and correct your aim as necessary. Takes about one to two grenades, depending on your accuracy.

I would also recommend finding an area with a Hydra(s), killing him, and then killing yourself to reload your checkpoint. This way you can get the achievement out of the way without having to worry about ammo. A checkpoint is usually made at each little battle - check first to make sure you won't spawn too far behind. The kills are cumulative; they keep score even if you die without a save.

    Have fun.

Use the Black Widow to stick a Hydra and then hit the X button to detonate while it's in the middle of a jump. Reload the checkpoint and repeat until it unlocks.

MUTANDlSSorry, I don't remember. I traded that game in a very long time ago. I'd assume I said that because there's a checkpoint right before you're attacked by several Hydra's. Keep an eye out for something like that and just keep reloading it. Good luck!

olde fortran 77Towards the end of Dreadnought Tower. After you go through a crashed dropship, jump down, then walk up a hill (with a data cell hidden on the top right side behind some explodable crates), you find yourself overlooking an enclosed area. There is a fallen ramp that looks so steep you swear you'd fall right off it, but an enemy walks up it towards you but he can't get past the explodable crates. There is a Black Widow grenade launcher lying on the ground up here. This is where I got the achievement. You don't even necessarily have to stick the Hydra, because I suspect I never directly hit one with that goofy weapon. Instead, if you blanket the area below with grenades and detonate them when the Hydra is jumping, you will more than likely kill him (at least on easy or casual on whatever the easiest game setting is).

TimeTrakenI got this achievement without killing a single Hydra while it was in the air, they were all very stationary and killed with the machine gun or sniper

This one is a little tricky, what with the jumping around that the Hydras do and with the rockets they shoot at you. However, with a little perseverance, you can kill 5 of them while they're jumping around.

I suggest using the Raptor, since it is quick action and powerful. While they are in midair, fire upon them (aiming closer to the head) until they drop. This may take a little time.

However, the amount of kills doesn't change if you reload the game from a recent save or if you die. If you want to get this achievement early, when the Hydras are first introduces, you should have a Raptor in your possession and a save should have just taken place. Kill the both of them in midair and load the checkpoint again.
