I found the EASIEST way to get this. Wait till you meet one of those fat guys who are stuck on the walls. They moan and spit out little egg things that grow 1 tentacle that shoots at you. Just let him keep spitting out those egg thingies and light them ablaze. They die pretty easily. Plus he will keep spitting them out as long as you dont kill him.

The easiest way to do this would be to use the alternate fire mode on the Flamethrower. What this does is essentially turn the Flamethrower into a very short range shotgun that lights your enemies on fire, and has 25 shots once fully upgraded. A secondary firing mode shot takes 10 ammo, lights the enemy on fire and early on rips off the limb you hit. The alternate mode is a far easier, and quicker, way to rack up the kills.

This was by far the most difficult weapon achievement for me. All I can recommend is that you buy your flamethrower as early as possible and keep it in your inventory (as opposed to in the store) from the moment you obtain it. This way, the game will consistently provide you with ammo for it (the game gives you much more ammo for weapons you have equipped).

As for which creatures to kill, I recommend you try MAGNUS 7000's guide. Originally I thought that killing the little swarm creatures would be best, but it was pointed out that those only count as one collectively, which makes them pretty worthless :(

(Thanks, NiTRACE!)

I found a dead easy way to get this and most of the other weapon achievements

At the start of chapter 5 go to the store and buy the gun which you want the achievement for and lots of ammo.

Right at the start of the mission you will encounter an enemy which spits little enemys out of its tummy, keep an killing these little enemies to get the achievement.

I'd like to say first off that this is by far the worst weapon in the game because it took so long to kill most people and used almost all your ammo to kill them. I highly recommend to do this in the early stages of the game.

That being said since it took so long to kill everyone I would use the plasma cutter to chop off a arm or two on the walking creatures and then kill them off with the flamethrower. Still took awhile because they never seemed to give me ammo for it but it seemed to work for me.

This is the single worst weapon i have used in any game ever!!!
just stick with it and try not to break you controllers but you will want to many times.

The best way i found was to do it during chapter 12 when the two things in the wall shoot out the blobby things and just keep burning them. the best way i found was to only try to burn the ones close to you since the flamethrower has a limited range. if you hide behind the pillar on the left there are three span spots where the blobs land that you can reach with the flames that puts you in the least amount of danger. if you have trouble getting them to spawn close to you just shoot some of the other ones with the plasma cutter and they should start spawning closer to you
Happy Hunting

I've actually found a decent way to use the flamethrower, on Easy at least.

Tip one: Don't use it on stasis enemies. I've found that stasis lessens the damage they take incredibly.

Tip two: Quick bursts. The real damage it does is the over-time version. Make sure you get flame on at least two joints, so the upper torso and head makes the best target.

Tip three: Run away. Quickly hose your target down, then leg it in the other direction. If they're still moving when the fire dies out, spray and flee again.

I actually found it to be a decent weapon for mass encounters, since it encouraged me to stay on the move and not get boxed in. Still not as good as the line gun or plasma cutter, but bearable if used the right way.
